Yup, I should have spelled it out to avoid any confusion.

Chris,
Glad you found where the shunt to ground was.

Now the next step with the VOM is why it won't crank. See what you get at the S terminal on the ignition switch and then to the NSS and finally to the start relay I terminal. (with the key turned to start).

Also, I replaced the sender because I thought the old one was bad, but it appears to have been the wiring...

After doing that it appeared I had the signal wire on the gauge connected to the bracket screw that holds the gauge in place. I put it on the S post on the gauge and both ohms readings were the same from testing at both locations. I could not get the engine to turn over for what ever reason to test it though and had to abort for the day... Ladies were starting to get restless...

Chris,
The sender terminal on the gauge is ether shunted to ground or the sender is the same. Get the VOM out and check as recommended above.

Was the old sender bad and the reason you put a new one in?

Check the ohms reading at the sender with the wire to the dash detached. Put the wire back on the sender and check it at the gauge. Is it the same or close to the same reading?

In trying to get all of my gauges working properly, I'm having issues with the oil pressure gauge. The engine is a full rebuild that runs solid and the Oil Pressure gauge is stuck on 80 when I crank it up. We replaced the sending unit with a manual gauge and it was right at 60. The sending unit is a new unit form skidim. I think the wiring is correct to the gauge, but looking for any ideas...
