Thanks Gary. I was reading some posts from 07, and there was mention of Rotary being a better design. But other opinions suggest that R&P is a better system. I think that because my boat came with R&P, I should stick with that.

Boat Dr has not been around since November. Call Zach at N3 on Monday he should be back,he can tell you the options. Going to a Rotary helm IMHO would be taking a step back sort of like pulling your BMW's steering out and putting Grandma's AMC steering back in it You will need a cable and the lower half of the helm, everything from the dash face to the wheel you reuse.

Hi all
The steering in my 96-176 is really stiff, and there's a lot of play(slop). Based on other posts I've read it's time for replacement. I have the rack and pinion helm with Tilt and my cable is SSC12419, and has 8" of throw. Should I stay with R&P, or go with a Rotary helm? I'd like to go with the newer Extreme cable, but I'd imagine I want to draw away from the "No Feedback Helms", primarily because they're designed for outboard motors. Can anyone (boat dr ?) give me the part numbers I need for replacement? Given that none of these parts are serviceable, I'd like to get a system that easier and cheapest to replace in the future. Thanks Don |
