...and to expand, do not place the transducer behind any thru hull fittings as the turbulance (sp?) will interfer with the readings. What 2_Nautiques said about finding a good spot is important because air bubbles within the fiberglass laminate of the hull will interfer in accurate readings. So test any location first.

Dan, If possible install the sounder and connect as 79 stated. Then put the boat in the water. Use a plastic baggie filled with water to set the transducer on at the location that you want to install it. If the sounder is working properly, then this location is OK to glue the transducer down. If you do not get a good reading you must find a different location by moving this set up around the bottom of your boat until you get a good reading.

any keyed postive wire will work, don't use an acc you don't need the finder on if your not moving or the engine is off.

Just got the new 610 today . I noticed in the featured products on this site it was mounted close to the water pick up (opposite side). Is this the best place , or by the drain hole under the oil pan like some people did ? Any tips on power supply wire on my 82 2001 would be helpfull . My stereo acc wire is already hooked to ignition wire . Thanks ! Dan
