BKH- Your right. That is a very good law. I intend for them to wear life jackets on the boat in the future... The only life jackets I had last Sunday were the ones that came with the boat when I bought it (all way too big for them). I need to buy new Life jackets for everyone and some extras, the ones I have are in bad shape...
I did look up the law in Ohio: "No person shall operate or permit to be operated any vessel under 18 feet long with a child less than 10 years of age on board unless the child is wearing a PFD." The PFD must be: * U.S. Coast Guard approved Type I, II, or III; * in good and serviceable condition; * of appropriate size; * securely attached. Since my boat is 21 feet long I didn't break any laws... But like I said before I plan on making them wear them from now on, even though they are both excelent swimmers, you just can't be too safe. things can happen so quickly... |

Just curious about the laws in Ohio. Here in California, kids under 12 must wear a lifejacket in a boat. I personally agree with the law. One of the few I do agree with. BKH |

yep, just a couple chips. I already ordered the gelcoat repair paste from Spectrum. I'm hoping after buff it out the color will match pretty close. I really don't trust my color matching capability, and I've heard that whites can be hard to match. I am going to check out the Mini Craft site anyway.
Thanks for offering me the use of the wheel, I really appreciate it. If anything goes wrong with my order, I may still take you up on the offer. |

Forgot to mention...if you do go the route of paste...let me know! I had a discussion with the Magic Man Alan a few weeks ago...we discovered a good way to match to curve in the hull...great for your spot or chines!

Randy...you are just fixing some small chips in the gelcoat right? I believe David F mentioned the paste kits that you mix pigment...about $25.00. You can get pretty close.
Also...go to the Mini Craft of Fla web site(great products!)...click the tab for gelcoat repair kits. The kit is about $80.00 (shelf life 3-4 months)...it is a bit expensive but you get a pint and will have way more than enough to fix all spots! They do have hull colors for Correct Craft, however, because gel fades it won't match....Soooo you use the color wheel they sell and I bet you will find one that is very close! If you want...I can send you the color wheel...check it out and send it back to me. |

The marina that said they could get me the custom matched gelcoat repair paste called me today and said they couild not get it, they sasid all they could get was full gallons of gelcoat for $80. I did some poking around on these forums and found a place Spectrum.com thanks to a previous post from Nautique2001 that has Silver Cloud for 1993-2000. This is the white color I need according to Darrels' previous post. I am going to order some. funny thing, I bet this is the same place the Marina had contacted, they said it was in Washington state and so is Spectrum. Hummm...

David- better late than never! I ordered some of the gelcoat paste that is supposed to be color matched to my boat from the local marina. I have a couple chips on the top I want to fix before I buff it out this winter. Do you have any tips on using the gelcoat paste?

Sorry I am late to this party. Randy, glad the Marine Tex worked out for you. If it happens again, may I suggest the following:
1. Go ahead and use the boat as often as you want before you fix the blemish. Just make sure you thouroughly roughen up the blemish and clean with acetone before doing the repair. 2. Fix with gelcoat. Afterall, that is what you lost. Most all marine stores sell gelcoat touch up kits. The hard part is matching the color, but women are better at this than men. The kits usually have gelcoat paste which is bit easier to work with for the novice. Gelcoat can be tinted to any color whereas I am not sure about the Marine Tex product. Glad you got it patched up satisfactorily. If you need details on how to patch with gelcoat, give me a shout. It really is fairly easy. |

Our system is pretty close to that. I love it when folk are out in the other two lanes trying to get their boat on or off the trailer and we just WHACK, are out of the water. You can see them looking at you going, "How'd they do that?" I made Rochelle learn to put the boat on or back the truck in either way. Working on my son too. I want them all to be able to do each part of the system so we never have any reason to tie up to the dock like those clowns today were. |

At the ramp...thats were you really see the the dumbest of dumb sh-ts! I've seen them sink there,loose them off the trailer...and some good brawls!
I have this one buddy and his wife...slickest system on the ramp you will ever see. As she is backing in...he's already powering on...she starts to pull out when he is 90% on and he powers it the rest while she is pulling out....turns the engine off right as they are heading away up the ramp! It's about a 15 second process max! |

Stang, that's a good way. It's best to let it rock in the cradle and set up before pushing it up on. I know Chris doesn't like the power on, but man, that's so much faster and easier than getting out and cranking...
I got mad at the ramp today. It was really busy and a guy just tied his boat up and went up to get his truck. 4 women were in his boat (and don't get excited, none of them would be too welcome in my boat) and they all just sat there having a party while he blocked on whole lane of the ramp. My wife went and backed our trailer in where they were docked and they yelled at her, and she told them to move their boat (which of course they couldn't). She did it just to help them learn when the ramp is busy, you don't set up camp in one of the lanes! I mentioned the same thing to them on the way out. They got the double whammy from us. |

Another tip....most folks drive the boat streight in and power it on. I do it a bit differently...I come in slow and streight(like the others do) but hit reverse lightly ,stopping right where I can reach out and grab the guide pole... I use the pole to center up where I want it, shift my wieght to the middle and power it up until it spots at the bow stop! I never screw up that way!
