This is a pic from after I installed them last year. The cut out is only 5 1/16" It did not extend past the upholstery. I’ll send you some pics after the weekend - boat is at the lake. Again, I would not go smaller than 6 1/2. A small amount of effort will pay dividends.

I have a '93 Sport Nautique and installed 4 JBL MS65LW. In the rear side existing holes I did have to use a hand saw to make more clearance for the speaker wire attachment points. Its worth the effort - I wouldn't want want anything less than a 6 1/2 in that opening.

5” is a common cutout size for 6.5” speakers. I think that is your question? Try google or looking up the specs on the replacement speaker in question.

Hello! I'm a new user to this forum, but I've been visiting this site for the past two years for answers, but I have a question that needs answering becuase I haven't found the answer I am looking for.
I'm hoping someone is willing to help! I have a 1989 Correct Craft Sport Nautique that's in need to get speakers replaced. However I cannot determine if I can only fit a 5.25" speaker in the pre-cut holes? Attached are some photos. Can I put 6.5" speakers in this and be fine? Has anyone else upgraded their speakers in their boat themselves? I don't know what I'm doing here.   Here's a set that I want to get Would this set of speakers work?
