Blowing a head gasket is not fatal to the engine normally. They usually do not just blow they fail after an overheat. Normally a new head gasket fixes the issue. Busy shops always say you need a new engine because actual diagnostic time and expertise chews into their profits while installing a new engine eliminates the diagnostic phase and makes more money. I would check with another shop and it does not have to be a Marine specialty shop. The 351W Ford is the same as old Ford Trucks ran. Easy to work on.

A buddy just bought a 94 ski Nautique and the head gasket blew within the first few hours of owning the boat. Local mechanic said the engine is shot and needs replaced. Anyone know where to find a used fuel injected engine?
Boat is in great shape if someone is interested in buying a boat without an engine. |
