I think it was an advertising link for some gut suction for woman and it gave the bellybutton down to the knee view and in the middle looked like a dark Belgian Forest, she was plus size BTW

Keith is the one to be praised on this issue, amazing how this forum kinda self regulates itself.
I too have come off the cuff with some prejudged ideas of my own,and was put in my place in short order.
The issues are broad and opinions varied, but no hint of banning any ideals or topics.
what a great site we have here, and the info and kindred spirit flows to all that want to be a part of this family. But then there is always a few that will be apart from rather than a part of, these are the few that lose out on the concept that this site was founded on.
To you Keith I raise a TOAST< and say THANX

64, well said,

One of the reasons this is a great site is that opinions can be expressed, and some disagreement over them, but then be able to move on.

Lot's of good friendships are being formed here.

Old boat people are great!

It looks like I'm about a week late for a really good post. Just wanted to add two cents.

I noticed some comments about beliefs and this and that. I've touched on my own Christian beliefs here before (I think it was around Christmas (there's a shocker)), but something I noticed in this post that was noteworthy.

There seems to be an interest and a willingness to discuss things, usually, in a civilized fashion regardless of whether it ruffles your feathers a little (or even a lot). With that, for what it's worth, I'm impressed.

The only reason I mention it is that, on another nice boat related site (and I just decided NOT to name the site) there had been an "off topic" or "anything you want to talk about" forum that, regardless of the word "anything" being in the forum title, eventually chose to ban any talk whatsoever about two particular things; as they put it, and many do, the dreaded "politics or religion!"

So, with a "WARNING" note from the moderator, it became taboo to mention anything about either politics or religion, even in that forum.

Incidentally, I've noticed they never did change the forum name to "Anything you want to talk about 'EXCEPT' poitics and religion!" It would now seem a more accurate description.

Anyway, when that happened I thought, it's really too bad! Few things have hit me as being as truly and profoundly silly as the implications of the old adage (or variations of it):

"Two things you should never talk about are politics and religion!"

I say the implications are profound because, since our views of both politics and religion are unevitably and strongly linked to our deepest thoughts and convictions about pretty much everything, that saying could easily and quite accurately be paraphrased as follows:

"You should never talk about anything that’s really important to you!"

Put that way, most would recognize it as complete nonsense, but it really is the same thing when you "THINK" about it. I guess that's what people, too often, forget to do.

Hopefully, some here will recall this thought the next time they hear someone say:

"Two things I’ve learned to never talk about are..."

I appreciated the comment that it’s not all about boats, etc. Of course, to pop in at this site, one would think that it is "all about boats" and I’m sure guilty -- but hey, what can you do -- they're cool, and fun, and nostalgic, and all that!!

I’m thinking of starting a new slogan, on a more positive note "Two things I always talk about, Boats and...

...Hmmmm? What was the other one?

Was there another one? –

How 'bout "...Boats that run and Boats that need fixed!"

Seriously, just some observations and food for thought (because I’m not allowed to type stuff like this at the other site).

Bill

Thanks for starting, IMHO, one of the best threads I've read on this site, boats or no boats.
You bring up a good point with the problem of the "philosophies and agendas" of the professors teaching our kids. I have a son who is a freshman at The University of Michigan. It may not be as liberal as Berkeley, but it's right up there. I've tried to instill in him that everyone has an opinion, and some try to use their position to further that opinion. We've discussed how he should form his own political views based on what he learns in life, not by what he is "taught" by some professors.
BTW; We just had a surprise visit today, from one of our employees who, as an army reservist, we hadn't seen in about three years. We thought he was looking to come back to work, his job is still held for him. But he just stopped by to tell us that he re-upped for another (5) years.

Thanks to all those who protect our way of life!

Steve

'Uninvited and unwelcome intruders who are considered a menace to the youth of Berkeley.' The real menace to the youth of Berkeley are the college professors and community leaders who are polluting the minds of students with their own philosophies and agendas.

I will fight to the death to protect our great nation. To date, I have been very successful at making the other guy fight to his own death. I don't ask for anything. I don't need any sympathy. My family doesn't want any sympathy. Hell, that is the path I have chosen.

Unfortunately, a great percentage of people residing in our country are willing to go to almost any length to undermine the military and the fundamental security operations of our nation. The difference between them and me is that they want to force their opinion on the rest of us.

Free speech my ass. If the city council of Berkeley wants to eject the military, then they are a threat to the security of this nation. The leaders should be tried for treason. I would happily carry out their executions.

For the past week now, our left wing politicians are bashing on the secretary of defence, because he is gonna send 200 extra men and 4 extra F-16's to Kaboul Airport in Afghanistan to help out the guys that are already there...
If you here some of the arguments they use in parliament... bunch of little children (juvenile and direspectful as BKH stated).

Finally had a chance to dig into this. It was even more ridiculous than Bill had posted.

A few nuts chaining themselves to a door in Berkeley is nothing, happens everyday.   This on the other hand, was pathetic.

It seems that back in January the City Counsel of Berkeley passed a resolution 6-3 to send a letter to the the Marine Corps recruiting center stating that the Marines were "uninvited and unwelcome intruders" and considered a menace to the youth of Berkeley. Can you believe it - an alleged government institution.

Over 25,000 letters were sent to the Counsel in protest. Obviously, Veterans, and families of fallen soldiers were particularly offended.
Republican politicians in Washington were threatening to pull funds from the City, the schools, and the University.

Yesterday, there were over 22 hours of protests, standoffs, and counsel meetings. 110 Berkeley Police Officers were on duty, and almost 100 were called in from other cities. This is not to mention the public works employees and others who were called in to clean up the mess afterward. Can you imagine the cost to the City . And to think, the geniuses on the City Counsel started the whole thing.

In the end several hundred speakers were allowed to voice their opinions both in favor and against the resolution. The resolution was to be rewritten somehow to say "against the war, love the troops" as you'd expect from politicians.

So, in conclusion

1) Bill, you were right, this was juvenile and disrepectful.

2) As ridiculous as it can be, Berkeley remains a haven for free speech and democracy in action.

Don't have time for a big writeup now, but the freak show continued in Berkeley yesterday. All day protests pitting anti-war/anti-recruiting against supporters of our military. City council meeeting was still going at 11pm and expected to go on for some time.

Bill, you should know that even in crazy Berkeley, probably the most liberal anti-war town you will ever find, over 8000 people turned up, on a workday in support of our military.

Ah okay...

For the moment I speak 4 languages fluently:
Dutch (my mothertongue)
French (the mothertongue of my father)
German
English

I also speak a bit of Spanish and I'm in my first year of evening school for Italian...
For my missions abroad, I learned a bit of Serb too

What can I say, I love languages
And speaking of 'yanking the chain'... You're still FIVE languages behind me hahahahahahahaha (= LOL in fonetic)
