Paul , Where did you say that Mustang was? I dont recall his name as a matter of fact I dont remember his phone number either . Maybe you could e-mail me with that and I would gladly look at it for you and take pics of it also .
Then maybe if your lucky I would take you for a ride in it at GL. Just kidding . I hope it is a great barn find for you . Snatch it up before someone else does . And be carefull when you say "mint" on this sight . |

Paul, I'm almost recovered from the shock of your 312 having the down draft 4bbl. I feel that Ray going back to the original on his will help my condition!! Go for it Ray. This is a very easy move. No shopping around for months on Ebay. |

Paul,
I almost wet myself when I saw your pics. Talk about inspiration!! Thanks. You can email me soundimage@charter.net about the intake/carb setup. The carb on my boat is a corroded frozen mess and my motor in waiting has a stock 2 bbl sitting all in pieces in a plastic bucket of cleaning. I'll save that one for my 55 f-500 Dump truck:) Is that doghouse an original? Like Raindog suggested, I am hoping to concentrate on getting the powerplant installed and test her out before I dig under the skin. |

63CCC,
I think getting the YH's back on the boat is a good goal, I don't think it is the most pressing issue (I've seen the pics ) Get her running with a 4v if necessary. Make a to-do list. It will be long. Break it down to needs and wants. Prioritize the list accordingly so you can at least get her seaworthy for this summer. There are more winters to come to get to the wants. |

Ray, The Ebay manifold may be a option but call Paul like you mentioned. He converted to a down draft and may still have his original manifold and the Carter YH's. Then go to marineengine.com and get a engine manual. The manual has all the engine specs but regretably no engine specific parts/numbers. It does however have all the marine specific parts with part numbers. Nice sections on both the Dearbo and B/W trans's too. You will need it as a reference. The guy who did the machine work on the Y you rebuilt may also be someone to talk to. Even though I have a Y, I'm not sure what differences besides the cam there are for the different rotations. The trans pumps are reversable so that is a easy change. It isn't the position of the shift lever.
The guy with the decals has 3 Y's in 3 restored Centurys. All are show winners and I'm sure he would be good to talk too. Steven J. and Steven R. Hilpisch E-mail: skhilpisch@sbcglobal.net Day phone: 317 230 5954 I don't know how much they know about the rotation issue though because the 3 Y's they have are LH and the rotation is reversed to a RH prop via a down angle box on their Dearbomatic trans's. |

I dont know what those intakes are worth...seems like plenty to me tho. Might be worth a try advertising in the "Parts Wanted" section here first? Heck , you might even find some carbs? I cant imagine that they are that rare?

I cant believe it. I been learning so much, so fast, soo expensive. Do you think that ebay intake is a good deal? Does that hole need to be sealed off from high temp exhaust (maybe alloy welded?)? It is now, also that day has dawned on Marble Head! I now realize I need 2 of those $$ carbs!!

Thanks for the welcome.
Holy Cow! They's lots ta do to change the rotation! I guess you'll know me from far away when you see me leaning siderds to the right lesuns I keep the beer keg flung over the left to even things out a wee tad. The "old" motor already is the wrong rotation, but I guess this should make me happy since my motor is wrong too. I just want it to be purdy and have fun! I guess I should be lookin for a carter YH carb eh? Was that the original they used or just a posible replacement? Do they sell rebuild kits for them? |

The cam, distribtor and the crankshaft. There are knurling on the rear for oil control, but a good machine shop could duplicate these to your new crank.
The other problem is the piston pin offset, and I cannot speak for the Y-Block.Windsor have 0 degree so the pistons dont care. The camshaft may be a salvage out of the old motor, worth the time to try. The next step will be the gear on the distr.rebuild the old one or simply exchange it on your unit . And don't worry about the NEWBIE STATUS, that will only last till you get neck deep in a CC,By the way welcome to the greatest show on EARTH.....CCFan.........Boat dr |
