So, I guess it is up to some self annointed beauracrat to determine who is "good" for society and who is bad. They get to pick winners and losers. That sounds fair. If people didn't watch or listen to them then they couldn't keep sponsors and they would go under....unless they happen to be on Obama's contribution list, then they would get a bailout or be classified as too big to fail (GM, AIG, Union pension plans, CA, homeowners who bought more house than they can afford hoping to flip it, etc).

Look face it, you on the wrong team, and your kids since this Obama charater is in there they owe lots of money and they have not even done anything yet..

Wow, those are very ignorant comments. Fox News, The most biased news channel of them all. There in lies the problem. All you do is watch FoxNews the biggest right wing propaganda machine. Like Eric mentioned you might want to give C-Span a shot and change it up a bit. I don't think I need to even address Limbaugh... Beck? Yeah, Beck and his 23 Million dollar salary has your interests in mind all right. What a clown,
The fear monger in chief spreading hate and conspiracy theories. I'll quote someone you may have heard of. Mark Levin called Beck "Mindless," "incoherent," and "pathetic". Furthermore, Beck has referred to himself as an, "entertainer" and also said, "if you take what I say as gospel, you're an idiot".

I think you're referring to the free market here right? Well, the free market doesn't always work. That should be evident with cigarette's. Each year 440,000 people die from cancer caused by a tobacco product mainly smoking and it doesn't seem to deter many people.

Critter, that was a pretty good article. Breaks things down pretty nicely. But as far as your premiums comments go;

Americans’ premiums will go up. Americans’ premiums will go down.

The battle over what happens to insurance premium costs under the bill was most pronounced during President Obama’s health care summit Feb. 25. Obama and Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee argued over whether premiums would increase (Alexander’s view) or decrease (Obama’s), compared with what premiums would do in the absence of legislation. The truth is that for most people, premiums wouldn’t change significantly.

The Congressional Budget Office estimated that for those in the group market — those who get insurance through their employers — premiums would largely stay the same. The change in the average premium in the large group market would be between 0 percent and a 3 percent decrease, for instance, compared with where they’d be under current law in 2016. The average premiums for those who buy insurance on their own would go up, however, by 10 percent to 13 percent. The reason is that benefits would become a lot better for this market under the bill. Also, most people buying their own coverage would receive subsidies that make their net costs for these plans substantially lower than they otherwise would be.

Phospor,
What a stretch, comparing smoking to listening to opinions. Do you really believe this garbage you type, or is it just for fun? Somewhere back in my head I recall free speech as being protected. I guess it is only protected if YOU think it is ok. Heck, I support your right to be a socialist/liberal/big brother or whatever it is you are. Have at it.

I guess if Air America would have survived and did better than conservative talk radio, that would be great. Or would you support some kind of subsidy to bring "equal viewpoints" to radio like the fairness doctrine being pushed. But guess what...like most liberal ideas, they stink and aren't sustainable. .

For some reason, I get this impression of you sitting on the back of your yacht, in Nantucket, sipping a martini, ascot and blue blazer (or perhaps a pink sweater draped over your shoulders), collar turned up, discussing how YOU now what is best for us regular people.

Well, your image of me is no where near how I am. First of all, I would never wear a sweater unless it's to work. I wear mainly hooded sweatshirts with flat brim hats. Personally, I am not one for yuppie dressing and I think it makes you look gay. Not that I have anything against gays they just tend to dress really nice. Second of all, If you were not referring to how the free market works then I was mistaken. The idea that the market will always pick what's best is a bunch of sht. Shouldn't that be evident with the recent financial meltdown? I like free markets but I want some government supervision to correct market failures and ensure stability.

Well, we did have a lot of oversight in the financial markets. We had Barney Frank spewing that Fannie and Freddie were doing just fine about 6 mos prior to the meltdown. We had the feds pushing the banks to lighten lending requirements to unheard of levels, so everyone could be a homeowner, remember the Community Reinvestment Act??? It basically said you loan to people you normally wouldn't loan to or we will punish you! So they did, Fannie and Freddie bought the bad mortgages. Well, guess who gets to keep funding F&F? The taxpayer! That my friend is no where near free market, that is gvt corruption. Has Barney or Chris Dodd ever been held accountable? No. You need to get your head out of the boob tube and do some research and find out the facts. Gvt intervention has got us into this mess, and more of the same will not bring us out. Do a google search on finacial housing crisis, and learn the history. We haven't had free markets for a long time!

The Haircut,

One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut. After the cut, he asked about his bill, and the barber replied, 'I cannot accept from you. I'm doing community service this week.

The florist was pleased and left the shop.

When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a 'thank you' card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.

Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replied, 'I cannot accept money from you.
I'm doing community service this week.' The cop was happy and left the shop.

The next morning when the barber went to open up, there was a 'thank you' card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.

Then a Congressman came in for a haircut, and when he went to pay his bill, the barber again replied, 'I can not accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week.

The Congressman was very happy and left the shop.

The next morning, when the barber went to open up, there were a dozen Congressmen lined up waiting for a free haircut.

And that, my friends, illustrates the fundamental difference between the correct craft fans of our country and the politicians who run it.

What as has ruined America is the ol De-Industralized markets we had in the 60's and 70's.. We could just out produce everyone, the gouks and the germans, but know a "Technology" has ruined America.

Hey lets ship that *************** over seas, we can make it cheaper, then will sell a foreign product, that was orginally ours.. What the crap?

Eventually if these Democrats keep "STAMPING" bill after bill, China might just come over and say, Hey will just buy you.. Think of that! We going broke.. Broke, broke.. We need a true conservative back in there to fix this ***************..

BS! The Libs want to take the guns. The Recent Supreme Court ruling affirming the 2nd amendment as an individual right has them all pretty upset, throw in favorable CC laws in many states and they are not happy.

Even in Maine where we have the highest per capita amount of guns in the country and about the lowest crime and fewest murders (about 20 something/year, mostly domestic), we now have groups telling us that we must have more laws for gun control, (now called gun safety) in our state.

The bottom line is the libs want the government to control our lives.

Wow, some of you need to take lessons on debating. Phospher, Okie, and BKH have brought up (in a very civilized manner) very good points addressing FACTS from both sides of this issue...while many others resort to personal attacks on (Phospher's) speculated lifestyle, religious beliefs, or any other stance. I give him credit, he handles it very well.

I know this stuff gets emotional, but I don't think anyone comes to this site looking for someone to get mad at...so take the emotion out of it and have a productive debate. If it makes you mad, just don't read it.

And can we please knock off the extreme bucket catagorazation. Not everyone out there falls into 2 buckets, 1 being the religious conservative southerner who values hard work and totes 15 guns, and the other being the popped collar New York liberal baby killing Robin Hood. You can't take someone's stance on one issue and throw them into one of those buckets and assume their stance on every issue.

Yes, I remember quit well. Bush bragging about home ownership being at an all time high. I remember Bush's home ownership initiatives.. And to be fair a lot of democrats supported this crap too because of course they are also influenced by big business and the financial sector.

A lot of oversight? What the hell are you talking about? I learned in history (probably back in grade school)that we emerged from the great depression with a tightly regulated banking system. It wasn't until 4 decades later when Reagan got into office that they started to deregulate the financial markets which lead to the savings-and-loan crisis. Do you recall in 2003 when top bank regulators posed for the photo op of them cutting the red tape?

Recall any of this?

1)The partial repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act in 1999 allowed commercial banks to get involved in risky investments, such as mortgage-backed securities. (yeah the GOP sent it to Clinton and the dumb ass signed it)
2)Alternative Mortgage Transactions Parity Act of 1982
3) The Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000 guaranteed that high-risk tools such as credit default swaps remained unregulated, opting instead to encourage a “self-regulation” that never happened.
4) A 2004 rule change by the SEC permitted big firms to keep too much debt on their balance sheets.

And a whole slew of others that I'm to lazy to look up right now.

But you probably think that the only bad loans were given to poor people and minorities. Never mind the catastrophe in commercial real estate and the greedy bankers. And that all bad loans were given by the government even though the truth is that private lenders actually made the vast majority of sub-prime loans.

Hey Craig,
Great Post! He has handled himself very well, and I do not hate anyone that has different beleifs than me. I think though what we have seen of the Democrats as they have finally got there chance and completley control the goverment, to "Change" the world for good, but can not. As the world was fallening and needing change, it has really gone the wrong way.

Some of the views of a Democrat are unethical to the values of America for how it started, as they want to change everything and lead to "Big" goverment movements and ownership. I am not in to that.. There beleifs into gun control, no war, abortion, same sex marriage, and higher taxes, does not sound correct for me.

But like you said, we having a friendly battle on poltics and everyone has not gotten angry here, as you can tell everyone grown adults here.. I have enjoyed this discussion, everyone in good with me..

Let's hope obesity because in my state we want people to smoke, as much as the state government wants you to believe otherwise. Every couple of years when they need more tax renenue, they raise the cigarette tax a buck. Nobody cares except the smokers.   When the smokers are gone, we're going to have another financial crisis on our hands. Maybe they ought to have an obesity tax.
