Is it important to fill ballast tanks with antifreeze? If so how do you do it and how much do you need?

Thanks

I have only had fat sacs but I can't imagine you would need to put antifreeze in the ballast tanks. After they are empty if there is any water left and it freezes it would just cause you to have a small ice cube in the tank. Maybe blow out the lines with some compressed air like you would a hot shower line.

The issue with freezing water is it will expand when frozen and if there isn't any room for it to expand it will expand in whatever it is in. Like in an engine you get a cracked block because the freezing water didn't have any where to go so it went out throught the block. Like putting a coke in the freezer - BOOM!

I've heard of people putting a little antifreeze in there, but doesn't seem necessary. I've also heard about a capful of bleach, mainly with bags, to prevent mold / mildew.
