I have removed the Transom decals from the 82, problem is that i thought the color portion was under the clear coat. Mine is one sticker so when removed I have a slight ghosting and white.

Can I get the plan 2 foot color strip portion anywhere, or the same portion with SN already removed from the decal?

I am not sure exactly what you mean? But I know TimD on this site does alot of decals. I just ordered a set from him. If you send him a picture of what you need he could probably make it.
You mean to say there was no color under the stickers? Are you sure you got all of the sticker off? Why couldnt you just put a new colored sticker over the prior ones?

oh dang!! Ya ok I see what you mean now. I am pretty sure TimD can do that. Just send him a message with those pics so he can see what you need. On my 86 that wide color stripe is in the gel and then just decals over top. Check out this thread.

as for the shadowing, you can buff that out with rubbing compound and a big polisher. You can get one from general rental in NC for 16 bucks for the day. I used a yachtbrite rubbing compound, works great. I also bought my own polisher because I had alot of work to do and found a good deal on craigslist.

Wrong in most cases!!! I've had to re gel transom's because the PO naming the boat wouldn't come out. Good luck!!

BTW, are you sure you're not removing paint??

Whatever came off was 30 years old lol. I also hit it with 800 then 1000 then rubbing compound.   Shinned up really nice.   Will be adding new decal over it anyhow.

Did you bother to get a paper tracing of the graphics before removal for duplication purposes? From your first post in this thread, it sounds like no!! Research BEFORE jumping into a project is always a good idea.

Hull and PAINT colors from our reference section.

Joe,
They AREN'T Decals - got it!!!!!

I just skimmed through your previous posts as a refresher of what you've been through. Wow, you really bought a "basket case" of a boat!!! Just keep going and it will work out. With all the other issues/problems you've had, it seemed you did do your homework so this hull graphics problem really surprises me.

Keep in mind that the sites search feature is fantastic - the hull graphics issue and how to handle them with a Gerber mask (stencil) has come up plenty of times and is well documented. Using the search, the key word cane be frustrating and patience is needed. If you have ADD, it's a BIG problem!!! I'll admit, that I do have the problem and at times do need to concentrate to bring my mind back on track!!!

Those arent' the original graphics. 82SN was three tone stripe (painted). Only decals were the Small stickers on the side (flag, etc.).

Oops. Just saw that Pete had posted the original color combos. Pete, what's the fun in doing research first. I always learn more from my mistakes anyway.

Brian,
I feel they are a original option. Take a look at the color options and you'll see a full black hull side/transom is one of them???????

Brian,
Also, keep in mind that maybe one day CC ran out of 3 different colors of paint!! I just took a look through the 82 diaries and there are several one color graphics instead of the tri-color. The problem there is knowing if they have been repainted or not and if they came from the factory that way??? You may be correct, but we also know the idiosyncrasies of CC as well!!

"Gerber mask (stencil) has come up plenty of times and is well documented"
because Pete has said it a thousand times. I don't know anyone who owns a Gerber anymore. That's a brand of vinyl cutter. And gerbermask is one word. It looks like the boat has the 80-81 style stripe.

Tim,
Thanks for correcting me on Gerbermask being one word.

It looks like besides being a vinyl cutter, it's also the actual material.

It must be nice to have the latest and greatest equipment. Your sales must be going great!

Keep up with your fantastic support of the site both monetarily and with your technical help. You are doing a fantastic job.

BTW, next time you go for some "Kleenex", make sure you go for the facial tissue!

Bought it from Vandever Nautiques before they sold there dealership. Got it for 4,000 ran like atop for three seasons. Then bad compression. I have done 90% of it myself with the help of everyone on this site. Takes two summers but once i start something I want it to be correct.

I font think I am putting the same graphics on now anyways. Next winter I am wet sanding the entire boat the n I will get decals. I am also rebuilding the deck, it is in about 40 pieces in my living room lol...

Well, this idea sure sucks big time!!!! Another classic down the tubes!!!
Joe,
I feel you had better switch web sites. I understand the group over at wakeboarder.com are very skilled at this process.

LOL.....well I was going to get 82 decals. Not sure yet. I will not be putting super air decals on for sure. Will somehow get the SN font cut out of a solid piece of vinyl since my strip is not under the clear coat.

It will be close to original I promise.....LOL

Joe,
I suggest you look into the Gerbermask and go with paint especially with the size of the graphics. There are several threads on the process from members who have gone through it.

Joe,
as a fellow canton member, I support whatever decals you decide to use (except super air nautique, thats dumb). Maybe you could come up with your own design based on the original. I have seen some people on this site change their decal design slightly, and it come out really cool (metalic sparkle, etc). I understand keeping it original and all but I am in the same boat as you are (pun intended). When you dont pay alot for your boat and its a basket case, there isnt much left on in that original anyway. Why should the graphics be any different. Now maybe If I was going to spring for new gel coat on the boat I would make it original, but all the scratches, patches, cracks and holes arent original either.

who needs a back seat anyway. It really opens the interior up without it. Someone made some custom storage under the back seat in miney which was nice, also cut a nice hole in the dash for the radio. Oh well, I appreciate the ability to listen to my tunes, they rigged up a ghetto switch to turn the power on and off to it though.

Just a guess, but I think Brian is right. Notice the label next to the color options- the Ski Nautique offered the 3-stripe graphics. The other models had single stripe color options, though.
