Thanks Kristoph.
That's the encouragement I was looking for to try a DA sander. On my last boat I did it all by hand starting with 320 grit. Needless to say I'm lOoking for anything to speed up the process and save my arms a little |

Kristof,
I've been in awe and shock from the begining of your post.My fingers wouldn't work the keys to respond! AWESOME JOB-- and see you can tackle almost anything. You just needed that push from the Family here at CCFan. Hopefully the guys here can keep you informed enough to keep your boat running and looking as well as she looks now AGAIN--- GREAT JOB ! We knew you could do it |

One thing I remembered from the "wetsanding: purgatory or punishment"-thread is to start with the finest grit possible. Only when you find that that grit isn't "rough" enough to do the job, go to a more abrasive grit... |

Kristof - Nice job mate
In one of your final pictures where it's really shiny, I noticed you can still see some of the pin striping lines. I'm currently doing my gelcoat and am noticing the same - is it just the photo or is it just as noticeable in person? I'm just experimenting at the moment with both wetsanding and DA sanding. Have gone down as low as 600 grit. I'm thinking I need to chip away at it more aggressively with 400 on the DA, what do you think? |

Time to revive this thread...
Season is almost over and plans are made for the winter. First: how well I try to keep the red on the boat shiny, it starts to fade again. Buffed and polished her last winter. And every time I get her out on the water to clean off the brown smudge on the hull bottom, I give her a good coat of wax... But alas, no deal, she keeps fading. So, this year we have a solution: the red will be wrapped! No more fading. We have two great companies that are specialised in boat wrapping. The boat will look exactly the same as she does now. The decals I have will be incorporated in the wrap. And I get a five year warranty against fading . Oh, and as far as original goes: it's completely reverseable. Take off the wrap and put back the original decals Another plus is, that the gelcoat underneath the wrap is protected from fading even more... Second: my custom made speaker pod (see two pages back) has started to crack. Cause: wrong wood and a few shortcuts that have come to bite me in the butt So this winter version 2.0 is in the make. This time I'll use the right wood for the frame that will be CPES'd, I'll use epoxy resin instead of polyester resin and finally, better clamps to attach it to the tower. Needless to say, the speakers will be upgraded too, little bigger and little louder hehehe... A few teasers on this project: |

You just need to block the sun, say with a lower cover, to prevent fading.

Some more work done on the tower peaker pod:
CPES'd all the wood yesterday and put the frame together today. Test fitted the speakers. I'm gonna put a threaded rod through the wholes in the brackets and secure it with bolts. It will be quite strong enough to withstand some beating on the wakes Ready for the fleece and epoxy The speaker pod is 35,83 inches (91 cm) wide, 6,3 inches (16cm) deep and 7,87 inches (20 cm) high |

Others will chime in- but personally I would not put the rubber hose back over the guide poles. Put a capped pvc pipe over the poles- and then some foam with covers on that. The cap allows the pvc pipe to float up when you back down the ramp. |

Marty, that would be nice, but the hard PVC wouldnt be long enough to be useful on the older style guide posts with the additional bends. The upper section is only about a foot long. I agree that a soft walled material is the way to go. Im going to add some flex PVC over our BFN guides this winter, which is what I believe CC was putting on the trailers in the 80's. |

Did some more work on my tower speaker pod series 2.0
Stretched the (thin) fleece cloth over the frame and glued it: Then two coats of epoxy resin... Now comes the part I hate: sanding an fairing... |

Now that the second coat of epoxy has dried... I kinda like the texture it has right now. I managed to apply the coats of epoxy thin enough and rolled them out to an even coat.
The texture of the cloth comes through and looks great in my eyes. So I decided to sand it and coat it with satin black to keep that texture. Then put some red accent striping on it and have a friend make custom red "Ski Nautique" decals for it... |

Well while we were winterizing the boat, I took some time to work on my speaker pod.
Did some fairing with epoxy. Now this stuff has to cure for at least two days before I can start sanding it. After that a few coats of spray putty and more sanding... My buddy made a nice system to winterize the boat... You can just let her spin, while the antifreeze does its work getting everywhere where needed... |

Some more work done on the speaker pod.
Sanded down the epoxy filler and put on a few coats of spray putty. Then sanded down to a smooth surface. When it was sanded smooth and ready for the first coat of primer, I drilled the holes for the LED lights and for the bass reflex tube... And disaster happenend The hole saw went too deep and cracked the other side open... But, out came the epoxy and some mat... The hole is closed again. Now some epoxy filler and some more sanding and it will be forgotten soon enough Oh, and since I had some resin left, I coated the inside of the holes for the LED's, where the wood was exposed... No half measures |

The hole has been filled again.
So saturday, more sanding it is. And then a few coats of primer... Also took the opportunity to fill some scratches that didn't look good enough for me. |

- remove exhaust manifolds, valve covers, intake mainfold and heads - put new gaskets in between all the mentionned above - install two new breakers in the dash - install LED underwater lights under the swim platform - after that, hang my finished tower speaker enclosure in the tower: So, what are ya'll planning on your boats? |
