Just to put this into some geographic perspective for you that hadnt thought about it... Kap is in Buenos Aires which is about the same latitude as Charlotte, NC. Today is the winter solstice for him, i.e. our equivalent to 4 days before Christmas. So kudos for toughing out the winter weather to do some quality footing.

Hey, when you took that fall, I suspect why it happened other than a roller or chippy water. On those one foots, you are still pulling your arms in, bending at the elbow. when you do that, it changes the angle of your foot, and pushed the toes in the water. moreover it is a bad habit that you gotta get rid of, just a thought.

Also while I am preaching (LOL) don't make the mistake I made and I am trying to correct: spending too much time on the boom. I used to do 80% boomwork and 20% long line, Now I am trying to switch it up. Boom is fun, people can see you and you can get great video. Bummer is it limits growth. I got comfortable on the boom and can do lots of tricks, many of them I can't do yet on the longline. My goal this summer is trying to correct that.

Hey Guys, I just spent a day with the World Champion Barefooter, David Small down at a clinic on the Sacramento River Delta. The clinic was awesome, and got some amazing hands-on coaching from one of the barefooters of our times.

David Small is criss-crossing his way across the US giving clinics through September. This is good news if you don't live in Florida. "Friend" David on Facebook and establish contact with him and find out if he is coming in your area. You won't find these clinic advertised, but if you contact David you might be able to catch up with him. Worth the time and money.

As a biproduct of the clinic, I completely re-vamped my backwards skiing. Gonna take a while to make it stick, but it will open up massive possibilites for back one-foots, back toe-hold and surface turns. Amazing!!! Stoked over here, ready to rip it!

no footing for me this weekend..lol...to damn cold...I´d go if it was for me, but I can´t get a crew nor diver to come with me...
Air temperatura was around 35-45 this weekend.
This morning was 30....a cold winter is expected here.
we might get snow this year....and if we do, my goal is to go footing that day....

I really think it was crazy stupid and not woth the risk - he missed it by inches.

In my opinion (and I understand that everyone has one) is that we all have done and will do "foolish" things. However, having read about others hitting docks and learing first hand of a good freind who lost his life in a backwards barefooting run gone bad - this is simply calous (sp) / reckless behavior and shows poor judgement on both the driver and the skier however cool the trick is.

They are all professionals therefore if we(the novice footer) were to try it, it would be reckless. I think they are just pushing the limits on a private controlled lake(Bennett's).

Certainly the merits/dangers of jumping over a dock can be debated ad nauseum with the bottom line being your own opinion on the matter. I am all for pushing the edge of the sport. I see a lot of barefoot stunts that are outrageous, like barefooting from a helicopter, or a flyer off a bridge or platform, or Andre's ADV trick flying behind the boat wake to wake. However, those trick are not inherently dangersous. That is, one wrong move, one slip, one fall, and the skier may never walk again. And for what???!

That is my issue with the dock jump. It is inherently dangerous. Where was the kid's helmet? Think about that one. Even Brendan wore a helmet on the jumps, and those aren't nearly as dangerous as the dock jump.

This barefoot show was a warm-up for the night ski, anyway. Who cares if he jumps a dock? I only cements in the crowds' mind that barefooters are a bunch of knuckleheads; an image I would like to not have. JMHO

Of course you can do it. I would discourage you from shoes. (if you mean street shoes...if you have access to barefoot training shoe skis, they can be a useful training aid) Shoes may make it a little easier to get up when learning, but they are squirrily once you get up. Maybe try them, till you get the feel of it, but then ditch them immediately. Your 240 HP should be plenty (we had four footers up behind a stock 240 a few years ago) At your weight, 40 would probably be comfortable, but I bet you could go as low as 38 without sinking too badly or getting too much spray. With no boom, wakeboard or kneeboard is the way to go.   As far as the 75 foot line, if you can find a 25 foot hunk some place to add to it, that would make life easier back there. If not, go out on a SMOOOOOTH morning and ride your wakeboard or knee board just outside the wake to find the best water. In the trough between the propwash and the wake isnt bad either. Go for it. You will do fine. Pictures or even better videos will help us critique and comment if you have troubles, plus maybe even provide a few chuckles. Let us know how it goes.
