Anyone else have a problem with the black versus brown cap.
My new cap from DIM is black and simply doesnt snug up enough to run. I remember someone else going through this (or some other black versus brown issue) a few years ago on this site. All comments appreciated. |

In my frustration yesterday I went to the local Napa to review the Parts book.
In the pleasurecraft section they list two clip down caps. Part number 18-5369 (black)and 18-5389(tan) Sierra replacement Numbers. Rotor 18-5407 Similarly, In another Napa book there is two Clip Caps listed for use with the AL125 rotor - An AL124 and An AL125 cant tell the colors. Please let me know how your new one fits. Hi Stang
Don't know what you mean by "doesn't snug up enough to run" Do you have the rubber gasket between the distributor housing and the cap in place? If that's not there things could be sloppy. I've used both brown and black from various companies over the years with no problems. keno |

yes i used the gasket. doesnt snug up means loose, moveable to the extent the boat wont fire.
i can switch caps back and forth all day. old cap stays tight and boat runs great. new cap just will not get tight. |

you have to bend the tabs on the distributor clips until it is snug. you may also find a poor fit on the rotor.{a little loose},thats what i ran into there again you have to bend the tab out a little . remember use a needle nose to supportthe spring clip while bending with another pliers. do it in small doses and screw down the clip before bending. it makes it easier

thanks everyone,
yes, i did bend the tabs down to snug up the black cap the other day (prior to my post). when i did i must have also knocked it out off square because after i got it on there tight i hit the ignition. boat fired and ran for a few seconds and stopped - the rotor was hitting post on one side of the cap and broke the rotor. thats when i gave up on the black one. i've subsequently been told that i wont have to adjust the tabs on a new tan one. |

Put the fresh black pleasurecraft cap from skidim on my '82 yesterday, no fit problems. I've run tan caps before too, but I think the black fits better on mine.
There must be something to it. |

SKIDIM had a bad batch of caps couple months ago. Had one myself. Vince took care of it no problem.
