1980 Ski Nautique restore

Finally started removing the stringers yesterday...Not the easiest task I must say, but spent about an hour and removed the far port side stringer...got it out in three pieces.

yea they make great benches for what im using it for, plus they were free. I have a few more i plan on putting up in the near future. I guess i could lose the knobs.

I had a few ideas...either scribe the hull on to another piece, or use card board to trace the other two which are still in the boat...they are all pretty bad thought....any thoughts>?

I am up in the air on removing my steering cable,wiring and gauges...I supose if I mark everything it probably wont be a big deal but not sure what will be a bigger pain, working around it or tring to hook it all back up. not to mention buffing all the glass out around it/ Anyone have feed back on this?

yea that was what I am thinking, I'd rather leave everything connected. the windshield is coming off during my kids nap time and i think ill wrap everything on the bow

aw, I wish it did...I ended up pulling the windshield off dude to some dush getting spray paint all over it so all the wires and the steering is on the bow...the steering is the main thing that is in the way bc its so stiff...i am not 100% sure how to properly remove it.

nice progress,i see tims steering wheel from the BFN made into another boat.i just took my harness and cables and zip tied them to throttle lever with the rest hanging over side and tucked under boat.

Nice to see another floor/stringer job being done as a winter project. I am new to CCF and will be doing the same this winter. Please be patient as I learn to navigate this site. I need to add a picture too.

Looks good from here! Now comes the fun part. I can do with out the glass dust baths but the put back is awesome. I really enjoyed the woodwork and put back. It will all be over before you know it.

Oh I know, I picked up a dust suit yesterday and Im waiting for the weather to cooperate so I can do the sanding out side...I need a few more good days here in the northeast and Ill be in the clear. plus I have lots of parts to find before I can water test. Engine is getting refinished starting this week so thats always good!

Funny you ask...I decided to go Douglas FIR. After looking through many threads this seems to be the one to best suit my project. I specifically am going off of this project http://billsboatworks.webs.com/, Bill used Douglas fir from Lowes. I just went down to Homedepot which carries douglas fir and went through the pyle. I ened up waiting, the boards were warped and bent, obv what you will get from an inside warehouse. I then went to another lumber yard and all they had was Spruce Pine fir, the guy said it was all the same but again I held off from buying anything. I think I will go to lowes next. What is the deal with the clear vertical grain?

The clear vertical grain is ideal from a loading standpoint but not really needed. Careful about the SPF rating. The F for "Fir" maybe Hemlock and not Douglas. The SPF is common construction grade lumber.

Good to know, I won't go with the SPF and search for some good quality douglas fir!

So is this a matter of geographics? I can go down to Home Depot or Lowes by my house and get 2X10X14 marks as Douglas fir for around $15. The only draw back is the lumber is stored in doors so it tends to warp.
