John B wrote...For each of the few cases of someone successfully killing an intruder there are many more cases of someone accidentally killing a family member. I could post hundreds of these. I am on the fulcrum of the gun control debate.
In very few instances do they offer any kind of protection. Keep your guns for plinking, hunting, or just for fun, but for home defense, they have proven to kill a lot more family members than intruders are you stating that as a fact that more people kill family members than intruders. or are you stating that more people kill their family members when mistaking them for intruders than the people shoot intruders |

we all knew this was coming. luckily it doesn't have enough traction to pass. doing so would be political suicide for a lot of dems.
as if it needs to be said but, screw that lady. she nees to trip over a wood chipper. btw, she has a conceal carry, not that she needs it with her bodyguard. feinstein's ban to be introduced thursday |

Really? Then You didn't read my post. I think you should own whatever you want as long as it is legal, but as far as home protection, statistics show it is a liability, not an asset. |

With your ability to misinterpret a clearly written message and see into my mind then determine that I am in favor or something I clearly stated I am not, is indicative of the reasons so many myths appear on this thread. Would it help if I sent you a scan of my palm to read? |

so your statement above was that more family members are killed by guns in the home than intruders or more family members are killed when mistaken for intruders than real intruders .. because if its the first part then that really doesnt fit the issue you were responding to does it?

From all of the statistics I have found and examined, about 4 times as many family members are killed with guns kept in their home from all causes including accidental shooting of the wrong person, negligent discharge, ect, than are protected against an intruder. It makes perfect sense as well. If you are around guns the probability of a gun accident increases. |

Here is another rant for you all
Why don't you gun owners all stick together and say that the Supreme Court has upheld your right to own guns and therefore you can do it. All of this crazy talk of home defense makes gun owners look like paranoid cowards who would like nothing more than to shoot someone. I don't like that image and the non gun owning public doesn't either. |

"For each of the few cases of someone successfully killing an intruder there are many more cases of someone accidentally killing a family member."
I think john that it might have been my interpretation and maybe for others as well that you were saying that more people are mistakenly killed as an intruder than actual intruders. |

I have seen no evidence of that. I was talking about all accidental home gun deaths. We are all big boys and girls here and each person can make their own choice as to whether to keep guns in their house.

A must have in every home in America!
For everyone who would rather not have a gun in the house! In view of the recent Supreme Court ruling, sales of this new product may skyrocket. Washington thinks they are going to take away our guns, so check this out. I like it! NAIL GUNS! AND, you don't even have to REGISTER them or have LICENSES for them! AND, you don't have to worry about them being CONCEALED! Just a LOT of good stuff to do with THIS! Once in a while something so totally cool comes out that even a guy who doesn't normally even know what he'd like for Father's Day or Christmas would immediately ask for it: Thank you, DeWalt!!! New Nail Gun, made by DeWalt. It can drive a 16-D nail through a 2x4 at 200 yards. This makes construction a breeze, you can sit in your lawn chair and build a fence. Hundred round magazine. Someone invades your home, just nail their ass. |

FYI - One of the very first rules any responsible gun owner is taught in CCW permit class is you don't show or brandish your weapon unless you intend to fire at your target. Simply showing that you have a gun is grounds for legal action against you. If you shoot someone whether it injures or kills them, you damn sure better be able to prove you were in imminent threat of serious bodily harm or death. It should be an absolute LAST RESORT. |

Before any more accusations that I am some kind of closet unlimited gun control proponent are made, let me ask you, do you or any of your friends own guns like these? These are some of the vehicles in one of my car clubs. Also, one of my cars comes with a factory installed rack for an M1 Garand on the dash.

They have tried several times, but we have been able to keep them for now. We will see what the future holds. There have been numerous laws proposed that would prohibit individuals from owning them, but they are a big hit for parades and are requested to participate in many local, city, and state events. These photos are from the dedication of the Veteran's Memorial Tollway in Illinois and were requested by the state and the Illinois Department of Transportation. They are subject to inspection by BATF at any time. BTW, the Stewart tank is a hybrid. |

Mike,
Friggin' great nail gun!!! Looks like a great solution for my Belgian gun prohibition problem. "No officer, it is NOT a weapon! It's a nail gun. I'm currently builing a dock for my boat..." John, Beautiful vehicles!! Over here in Belgium there are also several clubs that have oldtimer army vehicles. They are obligated to make the weapons on them unable to fire, by welding the barrel shut and welding the bolts and other mechanisms... Only the military museums are allowed to have fully functional oldtimer verhicles to display (not allowed to leave the museum for parades or demonstrations). |

Perhaps we should be looking at other angles to protect our children as well. I mean, what about child exploitation/child REMOVEography? I don't have the figures but would have ro be quite certain those figures are way higher than children killed by firearms. And half of the instances probably go unreported.
So, for all of you photographers out there I ask you this: What if you had to have a background check to purchase a camera? Most all photographers all legit and would never victimize an innoccent child, but non the less cameras have been used in many thousands of these cases so we must do more to keep our kids safe. So from now on, you must have a NICS check done to buy a camera( even private sale from from your brother ). You must have a permit to leave your house with it and it will be banned from all camera free zones ( ie shools, malls etc) . Also , you must make available your computer and any and all memory cards etc for any law enforcement official who requests it upon a moments notice. Your camera must be locked up when not in use. You may no longer have a memory card that holds more than seven pictures, to decrease the chance of multiple child REMOVEography pictures being released. You will have to register for a permit to buy any camera accessories and there will be a tax levied on all camera parts purchases. All of these fees will be used to help offset the prosecution of child REMOVE offenders. Oh, and as of now you may no longer buy cameras, computers or any memory cards over the internet. Must be a face to face transaction where you fill out the proper paperwork and provide your ID and camera owners card. At what cost should law abiding citizens be able to take legit pictures when thousands of children are exploited Every day. For all of you laughing thinking that the above is a stretch you are probably right. Sounds ridiculous really. It's the same damn thing going on with guns......argue it all you want, say guns and cameras aren't the same ( I agree) but you'd be missing the point. This whole thing about punishing law abiding citizens due to the act of criminals is such feel good BS that it's shameful. I never once have sat on the couch watching the news and after a report about child REMOVEography/ sex offenders/ etc. thought to myself...Geez, we really need to do something about these cameras and computers. I also fail to see how anyone else could be so obtuse. Mike |

I feel like I am the last person to get sucked into a conspiracy theory but with that being said .. i still can not find any actual statement from any authority that can be read by me that the Lanza kid used an a/r style rifle in that school.. all statements seem to allude to it or can be read to mean they recovered one . Did he or didnt he

+1 I just had a similar discussion with my colleagues about Facebook... Should it be banned or not. My colleague argued that it should be forbidden due to the fact that it is misused by some... So I argued that we should for instance ban cell phones, because they too are misused by some... This goes for everything in life... There will always be people doing the wrong thing with a(n) (good) invention... Which will create a new law that limits the freedom of those who do not misuse that invention... Good people are always on the short end of a new law these days. |

Excellent point Kristof. The cell phone is a great tool in the proper hands.I believe texting & driving is now the number 1 killer of our teenagers, yet it is illegal. Peter, Lanza did indeed use an AR 15.There are alot of weird things surrounding that day and its pretty easy to get wrapped up in it but it seems as though they are just odd coincidences. The memorial page for the victims was set up the day before the shooting....most likely a server error or some crazy time zone thing. Odd though. Mike |

Cigarettes have been known to kill people for years. Are they banned? No, just taxed.
Alchahol has been known to kill people for years.Has it been banned? once. and when the government ralized it would be used without gaining any taxes the repealed the ban and taxed it. Still knowing it kills people. Abortions techniacally kill people yet are they banned? No The government pretends to know what is best for us but also need to listen to the people that vote for them. If your rights get taken a way please remember that on election day. They disclose who votes for what. pay attention and remove the people working against you. |

Are you guys serious? Really? No really?
Last time I checked I couldn't find any cell phones, cameras, or other gadgets that were specifically engineered to kill people as effectively as possible. That is the designed purpose of the M-16/AR15. They were not designed for hunting, plinking, or looking like a piece of artwork. Comparing an AR15 to a camera or cell phone confirms in the minds of those opposed to them that those who want them are the lunatic fringe. Why not support your positions with reasonable rhetoric so you appear to be reasonable people. I think it would go a long ways in confirming that some get enjoyment from them, use them responsibly, and aren't itching to turn someone's head into red mist if they do something you don't approve of. Some of you are fanning the flames of gun control with these crazy statements. |

ok please show me. the last thing i read the other day was a conn state police briefing that said he had a shotgun in the car. two handguns and an a/r variant were siezed. it sort of says he used it but i cant understand why they wont just say it instead of being vague about that one gun. I have never seen a crime like this with so much left unsaid |

John, any gun used to shoot someone is an assault weapon and is just as deadly as a so called assault rifle. A Browning BAR 30 06 is a lot deadlier than an AR 15 .223. It may not hold 10, 20 or 30 rounds, but there is no comparison to its fire power. So called assault weapons are used in a minimal amount of gun crimes. What Obama is proposing is a gun grab which the NRA has been warning us about for 4 years. Looks like they were right.
And these AR 15 guns are made for plinking and target shooting. One reason they are popular is that there is plenty of relatively cheap ammo available for them. .223s are about the cheapest center fire rifle ammo you'll find, except for maybe Russian .30 which is an AK round. Google rifle matches and see how many AR rifles you see. |

No, Lanza did not use an AR15. He used a Bushmaster and they do not make an AR15.In an official report you would not say that someone used a weapon that does not exist. I suggest he used a Bushmaster XM15. reporting he used a Bushmaster AR15 would be like saying Lanza arrived in a Ford Cruze, or a Lexus Accord.
Give it a rest, they were killed by a madman with a gun, what's the difference which one? |
