I am replacing my stringers in an 83 nautique. Wanted to take the engine bed out but cannot get it over the ski tow pole because on he ring. I have the bed loose but cannot figure out how the ski pole comes out. Any suggestions. The pin at the bottom. Can't drive out because stringer is in the way to drive it out. Not sure ow to proceed. Ant thoughts would be appreciated.

Don't cut it off.
There's two roll pins you can punch out and then pull the ring. Might help to heat the pylon. Use a piece of wood in the ring to twist and lift. |

I took the 2 pins out but couldn't move the ring. I'll try a little more heat.

Bob,
There are several threads on the frustrating process of removing the ring from the pylon. They can be real stuck due to corrosion. The most successful method is to hook up a means of vertical lift (come-a-long or hoist) to the ring. Then penetrating oil helps. (50% ATF and 50% acetone is best) Twist the ring back and forth while applying the vertical pull. |

Thanks Pete,
I'll put some heat on it tomorrow and give it a try with my overhead chain. Don't want to pull post out of bottom. Guess best if I refasten the engine bed. |

If you do manage to get the ring and finger off, what then? Leave the pylon in the boat while you do a stringer job around it? That's not a good solution... I'd be focusing on getting the pylon out instead of getting the topper off.

I can't get the pin out at the bottom of the pylon. I can't get a punch between the stringer and pylon to get the pin out. Any ideas? Would love to get pylon out.

Aren't you taking the stringers out anyway? Take stringer out 1st, then punch out pin?

It would be helpful if I could get the engine bed off first. Top is held in with ring so cant get bed off top without removing ring or entire pylon.

How hard would it be to drill the bottom pin out?

You have 10" to get a punch in there... Why are you claiming there's no room?
Chris, the pin in question goes through the pylon and the cup glassed to the hull, it's not attached to the stringers. If you can't get the pin out, then I'd grind the cup free from the hull so you can work on it out of the boat. |

I can get the punch in there but can't get enough swing on the hammer to knock the pin out. How large is the cup and is that my best option to grind it out?

Got the ring off so I can get the engine bed out and proceed from there. I'll Try to get the pylon out as I get the stringers out. Hope it's not as tight as the ring.. There seemed to be a lot of corrosion in the pole lodging the ring I was surprised for a fresh water oat.

It doesn't surprise me at all. Keep in mind the pylon in not anodized. |

Got the engine bed out and the starboard main stringer. Very messy dust from cutting with diamond blade. It was in pretty solid . Back was fairly dry, front wet and came out easily .
