Need to replace the floor in my 91' BFN V-Drive. I have a couple soft spots, mainly under driver seat. I installed a sub-floor over the top to get me through the past 2 seasons, but it's time to fix it correctly. Can I just run a circular saw around the periphery of the interior and replace the wood and fiberglass shell on top of the wood or am I thinking way outside the box? Any help and/or advise would be greatly appreciated.

That's the place to start but I would strongly urge you investigate other areas to assess the amounts of rot.

The only other place I have seen any rotting wood is at the edge of the opening around the gas tank and trans cover. It's just a small spot at the corner, it's not weak, no flexing, just a little "Tired". She's an old boat and needs a little TLC.

I'd be worried about the rotting wood you can't see. Open it up and dig out as much foam as you can and check for water. Ideally you could get a sample of the wood below soft spots. |

Don't assume all that's needed is the sole replacement until you THOROUGHLY investigate ALL the wood beneath it. |

That's my plan for sure to make sure that all wood is in great to perfect condition. I'm more nervous about cutting the floor out and messing something else up. Do you know the best way to get original floor out? Is a circular saw the way to go? Setting the depth just deep enough to poke through existing floor!

I suggest going to the FAQ's and reading some of the threads on stinger replacement. Members have used several sawing methods. A circular saw is one of them but also using a inexpensive diamond blade on a right angle grinder is another. I have a feeling you will be surprised what you find. Don't be discouraged and just keep moving forward. Read up on checking for rot and if you do find any, I suggest replacing all the wood and not trying to scab in a repair. Rot is similar to cancer. The spores are already in the wood waiting for the next time the proper moisture conditions are there. IE: even if the wood seems sound, it most likely isn't. |

Seems as if the V drive footers hold out for a while as far as rot goes. Mark's 91 sat outside FOREEEVERR uncovered. Given it only has like 500 hours on it but it is solid as a rock.

Mine only has 720 hours. My wife believes she remembers a story about a guy falling into the boat in his drunken stuper and that is what caused the weak floor, ie cracked floor. I will post pics as I go to help out. Thank you all for your comments. Keep them coming if you have anything to add. Hoping to learn as much as possible to not get myself into a pickle. Zac, can you get me a quote on putting in a hotfoot? I'll bring the boat to you guys. Looking for cost and timing please.
