In my opinion boater licensing should be mandatory particularly with the PWC's. When I was around 12yrs old my Dad put me and my brothers through a power squadron boaters safety course, really learned a lot and the bonus was I was then able to operate the boat by myself.
Regarding the weighted boat issue and creating huge wakes I would guess many of those doing that do not even realize they are responsible for any damage their wake may cause should it occur. More times then not the riders behind those loaded boats can barely do any decent tricks anyways so what is the point, my feeling is use what you got as most decent riders can do a tantrum without a wake anyways.

ammer- i dont have 80k to blow on a boat that i use a few months out of the year, so i choose to add weight to acheive a decent wake...without adding wake the wake for boarding is just not there..i have 3 sacs that is approx 1200 lbs...capacity plate says 1200 lbs..so im really not that far over, and im sure that number is very low due to liability issues with cc...hows the weight a safety issue with passengers?..more worried about the other idiots out there

I put 2x4s under mine, when it gets a new floor it will get a 3x3 frame under it.

How about how to handle gas when changing out a tank? A friend ask me to help him a couple of weeks ago. He has a Wildcat that he had removed the gas tank and was ready to replace it. He had drained about 25 gals of gas into a trash can and had it sitting next to the boat with a lid on it. Seemed like a bomb to me. I didn't stay around very long.

Ok..tips one thru 4

1. Buy a new mirror to supplement the one on the dash.

2. Throw out the original throttle on your boat without the safety catch.

3. Put a 3-4" riser under the driver seat.

4. Whenever the boat is not in gear the button is out on the throttle.

Aemmer, it's not. Luckily they don't last long and upgrade to a new v-drive financing it out to the max parked outside their apartment complex.

I am curious about these these older tournament boats I see on the lake converted to wakeboard boats by adding 1000 plus lbs of weight. Just doesn't seem safe to me for the passengers or their boats.

Sounds like a good idea, although I'm not sure we need it on our lake...Every driver I see out there has safety as priority one...head turned around watching their tuber the whole time making sure they're safe, and even standing up or sitting on the back of the seat just in case they need to jump in after somebody. Maybe someday one of these boat manufacturers will figure it out and start making boats with the driver's seat facing backwards. Until then we'll all just have to be extra careful.

along with boating comes safety, would it be a good idea to start a safety topic on its own? alot of guys are new to boats and one thing that always is overlooked is safety issues including what you need on the boat, it would just make people more aware of safety issues including operating and repairing
