TRBenj - I came across this tidbit - - is there any 'how to' info on this? I have an '89 so this may come in handy. I couldn't find anything with the search engine. Chris |

There is hardly any how-two. There is an allen plug in the trans that you unscrew on top of the main valve body, and the fix screws right in. It gives the main valve body more volume and eliminates a very strange noise at idle < 1500 RPM that sounds like a rusty washing machine on spin cycle.

That is fix an excessive noise problem? I noticed I had that on my 93 sport but had no idea what it was or what it was for. Well I guess I know not to mess with it now. Good to know.

Yep. I believe it simply consists of a terminated hose running to the case. As far as we can tell, it reduces the pressure that creates the "buzzing" by increasing the internal volume. |

Thanks guys for the information - We only got to use our 'new' boat 3 hours before cold weather set in (I don't do frosty skiing like you guys) so I don't really know if we had a buzzing problem or not.
I'm pretty sure there was no transmission hose going nowhere. The boat is in 'cold' storage about 50 miles away, so I will have to add this to my spring update list. Can't wait! Chris |

Did you change the trans fluid before putting it away for the winter? The early 1.23's ran 20w oil rather than ATF for the same reason (to qwell the buzzing). Once the fix is performed, you can safely change over to ATF. |

TRB - Didn't get around to the tranny oil change but can confirm it's red ATF. I'm sure of this because I had a minor leak - I think it was coming from the pressure sensor (at least it was collected around it). I found a cut oring in that joint & replaced with a Hyd hose oring. I didn't get it back in the water to verify leak fix yet.
I also wonder if the leak was coming out the breather cap. I have a alignment issue, as evidenced by the mirror vibrating at 2500 RPM. Leading into - I noticed the shaft at strut bearing is visually off center & also off center going into the hull. The prop has some nicks, so . . . Saving up for new prop & new strut bearings. Hopefully the shaft isn't bowed. Need new steering cable as it got very stiff as cold weather arrived. It also has alot of play in the steering head - I hope that is repairable. I've been studying all of these repair techniques & want to thank all of you veterans for sharing the how to. I work on my cars because I have to but work on boats because I want to! Chris |

that is the cheesiest repair those enginneers could come up with, the hose acts as accumulater (shock absorber) i have a service bulletin regarding the 3 valve changes over the years and i have a ton of spare valves that yes ...i will donate to you to repair the buzz if you would like one.
the hose a factory repair, if i did that i would get sued lol |

Eric - Thanks for the offer but it would cost as much to ship the hose as I can get one made. The PO said that this trans had new gears installed so maybe it already has these valve updates.
