the rooster tail was a killer so we used a 400' line, by then the wake really died down

Perhaps a better wakeboat with all that fuel ballast?

i have to pull out some old notes to get the total boat weight, i forgot more than i know about that boat, its been 10 years and my brain is spongey
you can see the extra tubes in the drive area, those would allow air to the top of the props to airiate them so they would break free and allow the turbos to spool up.
we had straight 6" exhaust with 6 turbos, when this thing fired it was like a cannon, it threw a 250' rooster tail as if you were stuck in the mud. the boat skipped across 6' footers as if they were'nt there

sorry, there was 3- 300 gallon tanks at 2700 each...it was diesel, i calculated at 7lbs per gallon.

Apparently, gasoline weighs about 6.2lbs per gallon.

Im not sure , but I think water ways 8lbs per gallon . Gas might be more like 7.8 lbs .

Eric was that gas or diesel, as I believe gasoline weighs 8.8 lbs per gallon roughly, which would mean 900 gallons would be 8100.

I think speed averages in the 90 mph range on a race course. It all depends on water conditions, weather, etc. Straight away speeds I think are in the 140 mph range.

Fountain holds the Super Vee record of 171 mph that requires 2 runs. On one run the boat speed recorded was 177 mph.
If you see light at the end of the tunnel you might be looking the wrong way

when i looked at the Mastercrappers at the dealership, they are getting into stepped hulls, i dont know if the new CC's are doing this.
we also were using step up boxes which meant instead of reduction we were using "overdrive" we spun the engines at 3450 rpms...no higher and the prop speed was right around 4000 rpms...we initially had mercury build a set of props but blew the blades right off basiclly they were junk and thats when we had Rolla build a set, they were not casted as all props are, they start out with a solid block and machine the props.
we carried 900 gallons of fuel to also give an idea of the weight of the boat. 900 gallons is roughly 2700lb.s just anout the weight of a typical ski boat.
I have a pic that i'll find and post of this boat, we calculated from transom to water we were 27 feet out of the water

exactly, you can see the huge steps in that hull unlike 10 or so years ago you didnt see that aggressive of steps on a hull, typically the catermaran hulls are very fast because between the 2 hulls in the pocket it tapers smaller, so when the air enters it compresses and causes lift but then they become very unstable

That makes a lot of sense that you need more than horsepower. It seems like it all comes down to hull design. Modern racing boat manufacturers like Fountain continue changing hull design to increase speed.

we had a guy in england somewhere that was promising if we sent the boat over to him he guareenteed 5 miles an hour by applying a golf ball texture product. it was going to cut down the wetted surfaces but it was pricey. we also pumped another 1000 hp to it and it still did the same speed, it was at its limits and gives a good example of a boat can only go so fast.....it was the happiest day in my life when they sold it...i waxed that thing more than i waxed myself

This one uses Arnesan drives and is the 2007 European P1 series Evolution Class World Champion.

The King of Shaves features Arneson surface drives and Ilmore 625 horsepower V-10 Viper engines.

Yeah, TR, I was talking to you. I just remember you saying something like that. Makes sense for the Ford thing, a lot of old Donzis with H-M gear in them.

That boat was just crazy, but I am pretty sure the owner who made the mods sold it, and now is seems to have disappeared in the ether or the internet.

the donzi's came with Twin Disc 502 transmissions and Kamma surface drives, they may have also came with the arnesons, they are very pricey so you see more conventional drives on boats...the props for the above boat were 8k apiece x3

I thought you mentioned one time that you used to read the Donzi Forum. Do you remember that X-18 with the Arneson surface drives that did ~115mph (IIRC)?

Howard has to be up in the 80's by now, we tested them on different boats, they are pretty much bullet proof until you hit something...he tests in the bay alot, i believe

I've met Howard Arneson a few times. He brings a boat out to our on-the-water fireworks show each 4th of July.

One of the neighbors put Arnesons on his twin screw 38 Formula. Not for speed as much as for reliability. Pretty neat system.

BKH, yes arnesons, with Rolla surface piercing props, the props are machined out of a solid chunk instead of casting them
