![]() You mean like our pet Stan? If you put a 11-A bronze rudder in your 176 you will see improvement in steering and tracking. |

Mike - I have the shots that Craig sent me and I have some photos I took when I looked at the boat. I can email you the shots Craig sent me. The others I don't have electronically anymore, but I'd be happy to drop them in the mail. Drop me an email @ 66skylark@gmail.com with your address and I'll get them out to you. Kyle Jody - Thanks for all the info on the 176's rudder! |

I have a '96 SN176 and love it, I've grown up being dragged behind boats and this one is hands down the best one I've ski'd behind (I am no pro by any means) and when we load the boat up it does have a decent wake for wakeboarding behind. As mentioned space is limited, doesn't bother me though.
I would like more info on this rudder upgrade, where do you find the 11-A rudders, and is it a straight swap? bonuts |

Eric, are you following the discussion? The stock 176 rudder was the SS homemade job posted above. The 11A is the rudder found on most CC's from the mid-70's forwards. All the Ski Nautiques, v-hulls (Southwinds, BFN, etc), Sport Nautiques, etc had/have them. Smaller boats (Mustangs, etc) and some of the newer v-drives are the exceptions. |

I have a 11-A rudder out of my 92 I will part with as I put a tabbed 11-A that has been pollished installed. The rudder will go in as a direct replacement. Their is a catch! I want your old SS welded frankenstein rudder for my wall of shame!!! ![]() $50.00 and plus your old SS it is yours! we will just trade out shipping! |

I called this guy on the boat. Sounds like he bought it cheap and gave it a good cleaning and new steering cable and graphics. He wants 13.5K for it. I was considering it until I found THIS post. Tim |

I'd try again. I was talking to Craig about your boat last night and he is under the impression that it was "the" prototype 176/GT40 combo. Apparently there were not many 176's built with that engine.Like less than a dozen. May be some good history to document,if for nothing else good conversation at the next reunion. Maybe Jody can recall some info as well,he was obviously still there around that time. Mike |

There is a 176 here in Ohio with a GT-40 in it too. It was Ron's boat when Ron's Marine was selling Nautiques here. Tim |

No not prototypes but just options. The 176 had nearly all the options that the Ski Nautique had. Their is one out their with a Python in it! |

The brochures were often published early, they've missed a couple "new" models over the years. |

Oops found another 176 at our trading dock.com, judging by the surrounding boats for sale they could want six figures for this baby. I do like the colors though.

That boat from Rons Marine is the only other 176 I've seen with the same colour scheme as mine (I'm sure there a lots of them) And also kinda interesting my boat was originally purchased from Ron's Marine, just got finished removing all his decals.

The GT40 and all other engines other than the std HP 351 carb were not on the price sheet as options and not officially offered. We had numourus request for the GT40 and the factory was reluctant to put them in for liability reasons. In later years there were a few that we special ordered (off price sheet engine upgrades) with GT40's and other engines. The 176 that 66 Skylark has was the original prototype with the GT40 from the factory. That boat came from California then the owner moved to NH and traded with us on a new 196. On the rudders the first few 176's that were shipped were delivered to us with the brass rudders and then the factory started fabricating the SS rudders and sent them to us to change them out. And yes it was because the boat performed too well and they were scared it would affect the 19'SN sales. Excellent boat to get a hold of and we still have 4-5 that we service on a regular basis....Maybe I could get one of them to sell ![]() Probably Not |

Going to have to dispute the statement of the 176 belonging to 66 Skylark is the original prototype 176!
I saw the 176 Prototype and first out of the mold last month at Correct Craft as I was down their doing some testing with the engineering dept and the Ski 200. It has lettering on the side ACME Skier! I have a lot of time in that boat as it was my parts test mule for a lot of years. The boat that 66 Skylark has may have been one of the first production boats and or also a photo / catalog boat. Maybe someone in the past got Photo And Proto mixed up. We did not let the first prototypes out into the field. If one goes to the 1990 catalog and looks at the yellow Ski Nautique that boat was a Prototype that in 96 we cut up and destroyed, it also had composite stringers. I am amazed that the ACME skier is still upon the earth!! |
