I'm sorry, I forgot to clarify my statements above. It should read- good slalom boat and should only be used for that. When people are riding in the bow for cruising or wakeboarding, etc, the boat submarines, even in FLAT CALM WATER. I have listened to all the comments. Most were absolute garbage, but very informative on the commenting person's mentality and quite amusing. I have learned and adapted- I don't let people sit in the bow except when parked at the dock- such a waste! I should have kept my Nautique 196 closed bow which had just as good of wake as my new Nautique 200 OB.

Well it happens with cars too.I have a friend who bought a car once and after he used it for going to work took his 1st trip in it and found out the seats really hurt his back.He traded it in couldn't have been more than 6 months old.I know it's too late for you but for others the botton line is that since you can't rent one to spend some time in and before you spend some serious cash,go to a reunion.Either someone knows about a particular model or else there is one there that someone will gladley give you a ride or even better yet a demo is there.Maybe in a year or two you can sell it and do all right Rick.

Gary,
I'm surprised Rick hasn't driven that 200 back to the factory yet and traded it in. He's definitively in need of a MC!!

Pete, I'm not sure but if you go back to the factory wouldn't they want to give you a different model Nautique? I don't think they'll even consider giving you a MC.

Kevin,
You are correct and my wording was horrible! No, they wouldn't give him a MC. He'd have to drop off the 200, hope for a decent deal with the price and then run over to the closest MC dealer. I'd bet he could get a good trade in over at S.E.!!!!

Oh No the things that have been said here have to be true. The MC guys said so. If I dont watch I can take one over the bow on my 210 with or with out peeps up front. It used to happen during the first year but with more experience it doesn't happen anymore. I dont know of any open bow competition ski boat that can handle riders up front. Misleading advertising maybe, remember when Jeep commercials showed the jeep flying over the top of the hill they never show it hitting the ground. Did anybody really think a Jeep could fly?

Our 200 OB had the same "issue" and actually capsized this past weekend due to too much water entering the bow when another boats wake caught us when we were turning to pick up a slalom skier. Alcohol was not a factor but there was 3 people in the bow and 3 including a baby In front of the pilon. No one was in the back. The driver had over 20 years of experience in ski nautique and even my Dad, who owned a boat sells store and specialized in selling ski nautiques, noticed how unusually low the bow of The '11 200 OB was. Our boat has taken on water from slowing down from most speeds to neutral which is unusual IMO.

Houston sorry to hear about your tragedy and I hope everyone is alright. With that said I know the 200 Ob rides low in the front but 3 people in the bow is overloaded, Isn't the bow capacity 300lbs? Add 3 more forward of the pylon if you're not over loaded you are certainly improperly loaded.

Graham,
I too am sorry to hear about the incident however Alan said it all. A driver with 20 years experience and your dad noticing the low bow are at fault!

Those bows due ride low and while the boat may have been loaded improperly, their design is still prone to take water over the front. To me, the 200 DD looks very similar to the old Malibu Lxi which they redesigned after a few years due to the same problem. Welcome to the site Houston. I hope everyone is ok.

My cousin was sent to the hospital but has since been released. I am not blaming the accident on the manufacturer even tho it could have IMO been designed better. I was not on the boat at the time but was there immeadiately after to help flip it back over and put it on the trailer. It could have very well been overloaded on the bow but it was just a bad situation and we all learned from it. I included what my dad said about it riding low because he noticed it to be unusual (he owns a 2002 OB Ski nautique which does not have this problem) before this incident it did seem to ride lower in the bow than normal but who knows. At least everyone is okay and insurance exsists.

For so many reasons I could never bring myself to buy an open bow. They're not safe no matter what way you look at it. You could have the best driver in the world but if an idiot is in the bow and the driver is unaware the idiot is an idiot something bad could happen and bam, idiot run over. Boating and skiing are naturally risky but no need to couple that with an open bow.

Houston, glad to hear everyone's ok. Maybe buy a pontoon for carrying people and using as home base then a closed bow for the ski tug.

So he has plenty of experience, notices a problem, still improperly loads up the boat (including a baby!) and goes out skiing on the weekend. Water over the bow. Oops! Glad I could chip in for insurance to cover your repair...

I think you're on to something about the design of the boat. If it were more like this I think it'd be less likely to take on water right?

I've taken water over the bow of my 2001, then I learned to bump the throttle when going over the wake during pickup. Point is it isn't only the OB.

So open bows are unsafe because when the driver is turned around watching how far he can slingshot a tube , some "idiot" decides to jump out of the front and get ran over?

Wow. Glad that everyone is OK. I wonder why or if the 200 is different than other SNOBs? I've thought the OB Ski Nautique was my dream machine for a long time, but now I wonder if I should just stick with CB boats.

Not only is the nose lower on the 200 than the previous snobs but it rides lower as well. More transom lift and more weight forward.

IMO snob/200 bow seating should really only be used while stationary. Sports are a much "safer" ride.

+1

It's a Single purpose tournament tow boat.   you will dip the nose with an empty bow let alone 3 people up there.

Totally agree with Craig, that makes no sense whatsoever???

Put many hours on my Sport and 206 (SNOB) and either one will bury the nose pretty easily without passengers in the bow, put a couple bodies up there and you definitely need to be on your game as a driver. Waves, turning and even seeing past the persons sitting in front of you all create challenges. Totally doable with a little extra focus.
