I had health insurance, paid 150 a month for years did not use it didn't need it, cracked open my head needed 14 stitches...well I had to cover the first 3000 in any given year/each year of any needed medical...so the 450 for stitches came out of my pocket...

I was cash cow for an insurance company out to profit for shareholders.

I cancelled it because 12x150=1800 for 5 years = 9000 paid no services rendered.

plus I had to cough up the 450 for the stitches so I would still have to pay out another 2550 before they (bluecross) would start to cover 80% of whatever they felt they wanted to cover(policy fineprint) so I dropped it. If I need major medical procedure I'll get it and then pay or claim BK unable to pay the astronomical bills.

Is health Insurance a racket or what?

So personhood usa says 55,000,000 babies have been aborted. (And they were only aborted because they were not wanted/able to be cared for by their mothers and fathers-so tax payers would have been supporting them)Can you imagine what gas prices would be had they not. They would have produced say 3 more babies(conservative estimate) each couple so thats another 825,000,000 and so on and so on, my calculator just burned up...all burning gas can you imagine how much gas would cost? talk about supply and demand geez

Remember I'm just being humerous ha ha

my last medical insurance was 431 a month taken out of my monthly salary working for the state in law enforcement...12 x 431 = 5172 and no services rendered.

I'm thinking about starting an insurance company, I will simply decide to exclude coverage of anything that infringes on the astronomical profits I'll be making.

I have car insurance, disability insurance, and life insurance, every year I don't use them I get more dissapointed . Insurance is the only place in life I spend money betting against myself. When they stop betting on me and wont let me buy it anymore, that is when I will start to worry.

I understand it Eric, but ask any family that has had a mom go through breast cancer, a dad have bypass surgery or a kid with luekemia what their bills are. way beyond the five grand a year (11 grand in my case)And they will all say thank goodness we had insurance. It is a business, they do pick and choose what they will cover. Have you ever told someone at the shop "no thanks", I dont work on that? Or had a problem customer return and say I will not work for you again, Or maybe we are to busy, it will be 6 monthe.....? I know you have made profit. What is the difference when the insurance companies do it. They make small profit per person just like you aut they sell to hundreds of thousands and it adds up. They take risk and try to make money on it. You and I can take the risk and not buy the insurance. At least we used to be able to until Obama mandated it. If it is such a rip off why is the messiah mandating that we get ripped off?

I guess its how you look at life, I just think anyone and everyone should have access to HC, in this country, when you turn something into a profitable business, the ethics get dilluted, i dont feel HC should be a business...I can really sit here and say, yes war is business, its got nothing to do with spreading freedom, we spend trillions to protect and what do we protect? and we cant take care of our own?
What if your mom didnt have coverage or your father and they had to go to some sub-standard charity hospital? obviously everyone in this country is entitled to some form of HC, but, he with the best coverage wins and stays alive...i just dont think whether your wealthy or poor that you should have the access to better or worse coverage. When we send men into battle we make sure we give them the best possible weapons and gear to stay alive, its the same as saying, hey, this guy is from Harlem, so he gets a BB gun, once again its the silver spoon treatment

Most money for health care is spent during the last few years of someone's life. At what point do you tell someone that it is not cost effective to provide heart surgery and cancer treatment?

No one gets turned away, just go to the emergency room and you'll see plenty of people that not only don't have health insurance, but they're regular customers. They were telling my wife and I where the comfortable seats were and where to find blankets. I know someone that has never had insurance and 3 years ago at age 55 had a quadrupal by pass to the tune of $100k. The hospital will never get paid for that service. The hospital knew the guy was uninsured when they admitted him. He got the same care that someone with the best insurance gets.

I caught this show on a doctor gouging Medicaid, the woman was perfectly healthy, the doc said she had diabetes, needed in home care blah blah blah, just fcn pitiful on how much she was gouging the system...i dont think this is an isolated case, at the end of the day, to the doctor its about how much she can bill, and thats what i mean about ethics, you take an oath when you are a doctor , and with the current system its about the dollar....im in an open market in which i can gouge without any re-course, it wouldnt matter, but, i have ethics and its a straight narrow line that could be easily crossed, I know if a guy has money his bill goes up, but, he doesnt get any better treatment than the guy with no money.

There's scammers everywhere, doesn't matter what profession you're in. Look at Michael Jackson's doctor. $150k/month! People either have ethics or they don't. Laws or licensing don't make people ethical.

I think a better way for you to put it is if a guy has no money, his bill goes down. I charge everyone the same, unless I've done business with them before and I know they're a lot of work or a slow pay.

on the other side of the coin, I will call a spade a spade but wont use the term, you go to the other end of the spectrum and you give a guy a tax break, investments to boot, it is corrupt and the middleclass gets it in the ass...were in a lose lose situation.

One of the areas that hurts us is the idea that we all deserve the same cadillac health plan. I personally am thankful that the rich are willing and able to pay for the development of new medical advances that eventually become standards of care. I think pharmaceutical patents are good for about 12 years allowing the inventor to charge through the nose and recoup their costs of development and approval, then generics come out and competition drives the price to a reasonable level. I was not unhappy with the meds and procedures available in 2000. I would very happily pay for this example insurance policy. The insurance company is only REQUIRED to pay for generic drugs, and procedures that have been on the market for the last 12 years. Tort limited to 250,000, interstate competitive, and no required coverage for optional treatment such as birth control, viagra, plastic surgery, lasik... Of course the insurance company has the right to pay for anything newer that will reduce its costs. If they want to pay for part of lasik costs in hopes of lowering payment for glasses, or a new asthma med that significantly reduces hospitalizations, they can. And of course I have the option to pay for anything not included in the policy if I feel I would benefit. Imagine how much lower the cost would be for this policy for me and government enrolled individuals. I would happily trade the reduced but acceptable level of care and tort potential for a reasonably priced policy and let the rich pay for the new advances that will become part of my policy a decade from now. Of course this cannot be offered due to government regulations.

How about we have public sponsored health care for genetic problems, but not for ones we cause to ourselves.

Maybe we should have to take a drug test to qualify.

Seems fair to me.

Might as well send that one to the Supreme court right away . . .

How about The option to take the drug test for a lower premium. I pee in the cup every year or two already , what am I out?

So Bush saved AIG why? they bet, they lost, they should have evaporated but the bailout went to them...I think the largest share of the trillions from our socialist govt. How did that help the people?

Or lets just say I break my arm...pretty standard procedure to fix, and I have no insurance so I call around to a few hospitals and doctors who fix broken arms because I want a fair competitive price. I ask for an estimate. They all just laugh. So I get a few more people with the exact same type of broken arm and we all go to different doctors and hospitals and every one of us will pay a vastly different amount for the exact same procedures. That is the problem. There is no competition. There is no way for a consumer to determine how much things will cost prior to receiving.

There are huge differences in what we pay a good doctor and what we pay a greedy money driven doctor/hospital.

I know of a lady bit by a rattlesnake, $72,000 to treat her.

While I was attending the police academy(I had medical ins) through the tuition was included access to the college health clinic. Some small "copays" were sometimes applied. I once a year get a shot of Kenalog for allegies, my regular Dr who I trust and appreciate usually gives me a break for paying cash he chardes me 25 to 50 for the shot, at the student health clinic the same shot was 10 when I told the student health clinic Dr how much my Dr charged he said that their system was what to expect with Obamacare- fair low prices for the same things.

Can you show us a photo of your set up?

It's in bits at the moment, it's a 1986 Martinique with a W351.
The winter 'few bits to do' got carried away with:
-New stereo, I eventually went for a Fusion MS-RA200 head in the factory position with 2 amps tucked up under the left windscreen. The speakers are in the rear bench seat base and still looking for a place for the front speakers.
-Removed the bodged leaking closed circuit intercooler and re-built cooling system to factory spec. (though still need info from the group on cooling/heating the LPG system).
-Overhauled/checked all the electrics with a view to second battery installation.
-Removed all the teak to sand and reoil.
-Replaced half the upholstery, the seat squabs this year and the rest planned next year.
-Rebuild the propane fuel system, now 220 ltr capacity.
-Still to polish the hull, strip and repaint the antifouling and fit the new upholstery when it arrives.

And the count down is on as the temps hit 21C/70F this week.

So with Obama care the price will be fair.   Exept for those not on Obama care which will be paying to cover the difference. Then more people will opt for Obama care and the private insurance will go up again until every one is on Obama care, no private insurance to ofset the costs and Obama care implodes as it can't cover everybody.

The republicans had a plan where you could shop insurance throughout other states and making the healthcare insurance more competitive.
