I rebuilt my 4 bbl Holley last summer on my 83 southwind with a 351 ford. When I try to take off fast it almost dies then catches up and takes off normal. If I just ease into the throttle it takes of without hesitation. Is this a carb adjustment problem? How do you adjust the carb?

How do you adjust the accelerator pump does it have its own screw adjustment?

it's more like a nut that you adjust. on the left side of the carb towards the front you'll see a linkage arm with a screw/nut spring loaded deal just forward of the idle set screw that's where you adjust it if you still have the instruction sheet from the carb kit it should explain how to adjust it correctly.

Also set the idle mixture screws with the boat warmed up and in gear, not neutral. That has been posted numerous times in the past and IIRC it has fixed a few issues exactly what you describe here.
When people run down to the lake to see what's making that noise, you've succeeded.

If I had to guess, widen the gap between accelator pump arm and bolt with spring, just tiny amounts makes a huge difference. I'm sure someone on here has the specs.
