I went to the lake this weekend. Very nice morning at 75 degrees. Around 11 the wind was blowing very hard. There were wite caps everywhere. I rode as slow I could and as fast I could. If was going slow we were getting soaked. Fast, ~24 mph, the boat getting pounded. Is there a sweet spot to drive the boat? Any recommendation, what I did was to find a bar and drink till sundown. It worked for me but still I would to know how to drive by SN under such conditions.

Sounds like you already know how to drive the boat in such conditions. Get wet or get pounded.

Maybe next year I will make it. My boat is a work in progress and is not ready for prime time yet. I guess is a learning experience. |

Anthony,
Wait for another bigger boat to come by jump in behind him. I have found it smoothes out the water some. You just have to pay attention making sure the boat in front of you doesnt stop. |

Anthony. Not a bad plan... What year boat do you have? it seems like '90 was the first year that they actually became somewhat tolerable in rough water. |

Try to ride the boat with the wind blowing by the stern, you might have to do some zig zag turns and it make take longer to get where you want to but it's the best way.
The idea is to avoid going against waves as much as possible, and if you need to, middle speed and weighting amid-ship works for me. Ripster, I have to disagree with you, my little '80 takes rough water much better than my friends '95, men we really shaked ourselves on that one |

as luchog sugested.. if you have to go against the waves try the zig zag menouver.
had a few close call were we almost sank the boat but the "slalom manoceur" kept us floating. Also in really bad waters I drive around 15-20 mph were the bow is riding high and just sit on the gunnel to see were i'm going. and yes our 86 handles better in rough water then a few other ski boats we've had a ride in Edit: Don't sit on the gunnel unles you have some one else that can kill the boat if you fall over board or a kill switch |

I'd never sit on a gunnel with rough water,
what I do is sitting on my knees over the drivers seat for increased visivility and throttle with the thumb and forefinger and use the rest of the hand on the gunnel for support. |

Seb and k.o., It happens to be illegal in most states up here. Even sitting on top of the seat back or the dog house can get you a ticket. You're supposed to be sitting down in the OEM seating! |

damn strict rules... i sit almos everytime on the dog house when some one else is driving to see were the hell they are going. so i think if i was living in the states we got allot of tickets by now... Only 1 ticket so far here...

There arent any tickets in here, you can do almost wathever pleases you, I just try to use common sense, I sit on the gunnel sometimes while iddling but only on smooth waters, the same applies for passengers on the doghouse. As owner/captain I'm responsible for my crew's safety.

haha no my tickets were not for sitting on gunnel or on doghouse.. it was for driving with out a small craft lincence and registration that exepired.
It's pretty much the same here luchog drive how ever you want just don't put the trafic in danger or someone call the party poopers or else you'll get a ticket... Back to the topic.. Did any body atempt to cross open waters with a nautique?? some time people asks me if we cross open water to Venezuela do you guys think this is possible??? Oh and not that i'm gonna try it but just wondering |

i herad i mastercraft stars and strip try crossing to curacao but sunk.. don't know if it's true but that is crazy our north side is the worst water you can get around here. I think a south wind did cross to Venezuela but the southwind sit's higher in water than our ski nautique......
