Chris, I'm not proud because of the date; I'm always proud of my country...but especially today.

I attended the TEA Party here at the Raleigh Capital building. Me and about 800 of my closest friends. It was a good turnout.

Roger, did you see any/many FairTax signs? 2 points for going!

Tim, we didn't go to atlanta with Sean in town...it was a zoo. I'm super happy so many did though.

Eric, ask 10 people today how much income tax they paid in 2008. Some may not even know, but I'll bet you a shiny new nickel 7 or 8 will say they didn't have to pay...they got money back?!!?

Maybe in a few days we'll go back through that last sentence and see if we can list how many things are just plain wrong with it.

Kim and I "OWED" the Feds this year. I think they raided my checking account at 12:01am yesterday morning cause when I checked it @ 0830 the money we owed was gone.

Hey Greg, are you a proponent of the Fair Tax? It's an intriguing concept, but the current system is so entrenched . . .

Saw a few signs about Fair Tax. Some of these guys are creative.
Thanks for the points Greg but I would rather get a refund for a change. Last time I can remember getting a refund was in the late 70s when I was still in the Navy.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it is my belief that you don't pay or get back income tax only if you O V E R P A I D during the year.

George Bush so far to my knowledge is the only President to send us some money.

As for the TEA party.... Most folks only watch network news and network news just don't get it. They think we just don't want to pay income tax. They miss the fact that it was the spirit of the original Tea party that inspired the April 15 one. It is about government getting too big, taking away liberties, entitlemnts, and runaway spending. It is about finacials, unions, lobbiests, running the government. Government is all about re election, no longer for the people, by the people.

The Fair Tax will help the wealthy and hurt the poor and middle class.

Anybody read today where Ohio wants to use prisoners to maintain its State House at a cost of $100/month per person. Sounds like a great idea to me. The unions are dead against it.

Chuck, I am a proponent of the fair tax. The reason we'll almost surely never see it is because it takes so much power away from the political class.

Bruce, have you read the book?

FairTax the book

Greg, I have not read the book, but common sense tells me if the wealthy pay most of the taxes in this country and if everything is going to be "fair", then the middle (me) and poor class is going to have to pay a lot more.

It's proportional. A little old lady gave it the name. After hearing a presentation on the idea, she said "that sure is a fair tax".

Think of the business that would come back from overseas...

They evaporate along with ALL federal taxes. The new tax is only at the retail level.

No income tax, corporate tax, death tax, estate tax, capital gains....and any others you think of.

Also, the fed sends you a check(prebate) at the beginning of each month based on family size to cover the tax on basic necessities.

Please read the book!

Buffalo,

I've avoided making a comment on the Fair Tax for two years, but for some reason can't seem to stop myself today. I see nothing fair about the "fair tax."

The only fair tax, is a flat tax. Everyone pays the same flat tax on every dollar made. If you earn a dollar you pay 15 cents. If you earn 10,000,000, you pay 1.5M. No exceptions, no credits, no deductions.
It is even, fair, and at the same time progressive.

it should be across the board, but i dont agree on a fixed 15%, what if you have 4 kids, medical bills, and the family next to you doesnt? at 15% and no kids they will move to a nicer neighborhood because they have no expenses, i think tax brackets are in order and exemptions, but need fine tuning,
this country is built on family, and burdened families shouldnt pay high taxes, the wealthy, should be in a higher tax bracket im not talking about the 6 figure wealthy, people with no siblings should be in a higher bracket and so on.
fair sales tax no sin taxes, most stadiums were built on sin taxes. put sales tax on things that effect everyone

I don't like signing a contract I haven't read. I like even less being handed a contract that will take me years to read and being told at the point of a gun that I have to sign it now.

The FairTax is a flat tax...only better!
