How can I remove the electrolysis that is around the base of the pole? I'm tring to remove the pole, but I cannot lift the pole or twist it to remove it from the base plate.

Andy,
If you have the engine out I suggest that you soak it in penitrating fluid for a few days. Then take a pipe wrench on the base below the floor. It will skuff it up a bit but it will be down under the floor. There was a bolt on my 83. I dont know if there is one on your 87.

you might also need a cheater pipe.

Same bolt on my 88. I had to tap it back out and swear a lot.

Fook, did you have the ring/finger top or the ball? Either way, there is a bolt through the bottom. I'm guessing you had the ring/finger if you're having such difficulties.

80-87 ring/finger pylon base (the one that is hard to remove). Otherwise the 87+ (some 87s had the ring/finger, later builds got the ball top) ball top is just the 2.5" straight pylon to the floor with a larger cup around it, and a bolt.

Lucky you, what's the problem then? Get that bolt out (7/16" ?) and pull it right up. I took ours out of the 88 with the engine and floor still in!

Maybe the bolt or the base is glassed in? I'll look for a pic of the base.

It's just a socket pinned with a bolt and I think HW even got the size.
