milky transmission oil

i have an '83 barefoot nautique that i just bought and it is leaking transmission oil into the hull when i let it sit for a couple of days, the transmission oil is also milky from water. can someone please help me with what the problem may be and what it will take to fix it.

Really the only way to get water in the transmission is through the oil cooler. Must have a crack in it. Easy to replace.

It seems to be fairly common for them to leak a little oil through the shaft seal but that is a separate issue. You will probably need to change the oil in the trans a few times to get all the water out of the case.

thank yall. i will change the oil cooler and how hard is it to change the seal? do i need to pull the tranny to do that or can i do it with it still in the boat?

Kee, from experience and knowing the boating community......its more likely the plug was left in and the boat flooded, but again 2 sources of water would be the cooler and flooding the boat
