I am thinking of getting a new prop......
I am stuck on a 4 blade, but have done exhaustive research on the "net" and I am told the Acme 540 is the way to go. I have an 86 Ski Nautique, 351 Ford with slight engine mods (for a little more horse, ignition, carb, exhaust, etc), and pull 2 heavy bare footers without a problem. Looking for more hole shot....and to keep top speed. Boat mostly used for slalom skiing and barefooting, with some wakeboarding mixed in... Barefooters use step off ski's, cause the drag time behind the boat is very long.... Also, we pull multiple skiers often... So in essence, top speed is fine, just need more holeshot, and want to keep top speed.... I can't get over that a 3 blade has more "pop" out of the hole than the 4 blade. I almost purchased the Acme 4 blade, 13x12.5" RH 1", but am holding out..... Might get a 3 blade ACME 540... Looking for some more guidance.... Thanx, Steve |

What prop are you using now? I've tried several props on my boat and I just put my 540 on a couple of weeks ago. It is the best prop I've ever tried... I'm hooked, I won't ever need to try another. I don't know how it could get any better than this prop. I used to want Perfect Pass, but with the 540 there is no problem holding speed. I'm a barefooter and we also do ALL kinds of other water sports - usually towing multiples. With the 540 my driver (wife) pulls me from deep water starts at about 1/4 throttle, pushes the control to the RPM where she wants it, and lets go of the control - it's just that simple. When we first put the 540 on, she kept pulling the handle out of my hands on slalom starts until we reallized the hugh difference. I also noticed much less turbulence in the wake - it's more comfortable on my feet. I have not tried a four blade, but I can certainly vouch for the 540. |

I currently use the stock 3 blade that came with the boat....does the job, but could use a little more power....

Going from the stock 13x13 to an Acme 540 or 542 is a religious experience.

I am about to order the 540... many of you guy's are saying how good that one is...gotta try it!

My '72 had water soaked foam and porpoised so hard that even with the front of the boat weighted with 200 lbs it would not stop bouncing. I bought the Acme 542 and it stopped all the porpoising. I have a 289 so have about 60 ft-lbs less torque than your engine, thus the 542 versus 540 for my boat. Then I removed the foam and this boat will easily pull 270 LB slalom skiiers, barefooters whatever. I think the prop made more difference than removing the foam.
The 542 was faster top end with huge hole shot as compared to the original 12 by 14. The 542 only runs 200 rpms more then the 540 and I was looking for the hole shot so I went with the higher rpm prop. I spent a lot of time with my crank and main bearings for the increased rpm's, but the 542 prop did not increase the rpm's that much. Great recommendation by Keith. |

I tried the Acme 540 today... The lake was a little windy, but I appeared to get 1-2mph extra speed. The holeshot and acceleration were great. Did a few slalom and barefoot runs.. OUTSTANDING..
I would recommend this prop to everyone... All I have to say to S.T. is Amen! |
