Whats the best cleaning solution that will not harm the threads? Vinyl is very dirty.
Thanks Mike

Exquisite, order it off of eBay it comes with a brush, but I thought it was a bit stiff to do the threads with. Use an old tooth brush or a sponge for the the threads, and follow the directions, it needs to sit for a few minutes before you scrub. I've also been trying something called Totally Awsome that I got from Dollar General, cleans as well, but seems a little ruff on the viynal so you have to wash it off with water real good once your done.

With both I finish up with the Babe's Seat Saver, and then use their Seat Soap for the regular spot cleaning. Exquisite and the Totally Awsome are for the major details, once you start you have to do the whole boat because it works so well. I learned to only use them when I have time to do that.

This won't work really well on the threads, but it does amazing everywhere else, and it does fair on the threads.   Those magic erasers made by Mr. Clean, they are in a blue box. It's surely not the only answer. Ace hardware also sells "chem sponges" which are used dry, those will surprise you at the amount of grime it will lift off.
They seem to be fine to use, no damage I can tell.

I didn't believe it until I saw my wife use it. She does use the dollar store brand too. I like them too because they just need to be wet, and they are easy to store on the boat.

I'll upload some pics later this evening, before and after.

Nooooo! Stay away from the magic eraser, it a very last resort, there are abrasives in them that will take the protective layer off of the viynal. I've got some streaks across my sunpad that will clean off, but return after just a few weeks, I suspect that is what happened and the damaged viynal attracts dirt much faster. The Exquisite will clean the threads you just have to be careful and patient not to do damage with the brush, I learned that the hard way unfortunately. Most of the tiny stains that I can't get rid of eventually get bleached out by the sun. If you just have to the magic eraser is a very last resort. I usually clean a whole section and then spot spray anything that is still there sometimes twice. I've never had enough of a stain left at that point to worry about.

At the Dollar General I bought "Mean Gree", not to be confused with Simple Green. I don't know what is in it but just by spaying it removed the black stuff. Finished with Babe's and conditioner. Is awesome.

Here are some promised pics. Not the best quality, I had a computer crash and these are the pics I could find on my wifes phone. The last pic is during the "initial" clean up. Now the material is nearly new looking.

You are very right about the danger of the "magic eraser". It WILL sandpaper through the vinyl.

I was faced with an extreme case and the dirtiest pic above isn't sowing how dirty it really was. And when I get the other puter back I have many more pics.   My wife and I were very careful, and our clean up admittedly went more slowly than I would have liked.

I bet the Exquisite would have handeled that, I had some places that looked similar in between cushions and places you don't see until you remove the whole panel. It took a couple of tries, but took most of them completely out.

Cool ride by the way, aren't too many open bows.

Thanks, is yours open? I tried to look in the diary, but couldn't tell.

Yeah, I actually bought a few of the products from West Marine, and I thought they were ok, at the best. I don't remember the products though. Like I said, the pictures do not show the real scope. Honestly, when I get the other pictures you will see. yikes.

The mold though, the sun can take care of alot of that, if you have the patience.

When I bought the boat I was prepared to replace all the inside. Really I thought I was going to have a stringer, carpet, etc. It was so bad I really could not tell the difference between grey and white. Instead, the motor was just weak, and is now being pulled.

So if anyone decides to use them, do so very carefully. The worst spot I had was the drivers seat, and near the bottom there is a small area where the eraser did take a small amount of "finish" off the bottom. If I remember the erasers are composed of some sort of glass fibers.
She may have used them more as one step in the process.

Nevermind.    Split window must be an open bow.

I'm still coming off the Christmas party I guess.

NG,
One comment here - winter storage without ventilation to the boat inside is bad for mold especially it it's put away wet. Shrink wrapping is the worst. Some yards will offer a shrink wrap with optional vents - better but still will trap moisture.

Even down here in TX the weather won't dry the boat out in the winter time. I have 3 cups of damp rid that go under the cover near wherever is wet. Works like a charm when we use the boat on the weekend its usually dry by Tuesday, without it will still be wet the following weekend.

Yeah, that is funny. I bought a boat which had a cover on, with water on the cover, stored it indoors until I was able to start looking into it, with a cover on, yep I had mold.

Cool boat Seth!
For thousands of years men have felt the irresistible urge to go to sea, and many of them died. Things got better after they invented boats.

Finally got around to trying out the Totally Awesome on my vinyl and it is totally awesome. I was talking to a friend of mine and he uses it on everything, even a greasy engine! Much cheaper than engine degreaser. Not sure what is in it (or if I want to know), but it definitely does the job.

I sprayed it in my bilge and then used my pressure washer with a delicate tip and it looks like new now.
