Shifter has actually come clean off of the control box - can pull it straight out. Does anyone know how to fix this? Dealer says I need an entirely new control box - and that does not seem right to me.

The shift handle on older models (morse) I assume is like yours...they slide on the gear mount and tighten with an hex screw.Look for a small hole on the base of the handel...should see a hex screw there...unless it has fallen out.Can't think of why you would need to replace the box.
