Shaft placement

Has anyone played with the shaft length on a Mustang 17 or something similar. There is a slight amount of room for movement between the rudder, strut and hull bottom. Was wondering if it changes wake size or help keep the nose down due to the different waterflow. I need to replace the shaft at some point(very slight bend at taper) and was wondering if a inch either way would make any difference to improve performance before I purchase the same shaft.
