While decidedly un-Chicago-like with ketchup, it is so delicious on a beautiful summer day!

Had to double check, thought I was on facebook there for a second. That unnecessary remark being made, I have to concur. Nothing used to say summer like heading up to the Kayuta Drive-in for a couple hot dogs with sauerkraut after the morning ski runs when I was a teen. Still crave them.

Maybe a bit Facebook-esque, but everyone I know who enjoys water sports likes a hot dog now and then. Nothing pretentious, just the taste of summer. Chicago all my life, but I still like ketchup- sorry.

Blackies in Cheshire, Connecticut was my Favorite as a kid, was founded (and still owned) by my Mom's Family who were just off the boat from Ireland. My Aunt Nel was running it then, she would dig it when me and my brothers would pound down 6+ dogs each, everything was free, even the old bowling game, which added even more to the thrill. They do have great dogs, oil fried with the skins, we only got there a couple times a year while we were back east for the summer, always looked forward to it!! Blackies History On the history page, the tallest guy behind the Model A was my Grandfather, big old Irish Cop!!! |
