Hi guys

News in the story of the Danish chaSe on a ski nautique.

I found a Nice Nautique 196 - PCM PRO boss 40 gt efi.

The engine:

the thing is that the seller says it needs a new fuse box because the plate is fried.

Have you heard about this? He talks about it cost 700 us.

The engine Can turn around but only manually because of the electric problem.

if he means the giant black rectangle on the back of the engine that has the sparkplug wires coming from it, then yes they are expensive. But I though the trigger(distributor) usually went first? spare coilpacks/fuse boxes are a little hard to come by. I think I may have a spare I'd sell. THe usual and better solution is to ditch is for a standard distributor swap which usually runs around $600US. The catch is you would also have to trash the EFI and spend another $700US to get a carb to swap.

the breaker section is not so cheap to replace either.   I just bought 1 breaker switch for $25 but I think there are 10 or so. plus shipping to Denmark, plus installation.   I could see how that could get expensive if you were paying someone to do it.   FF is right about the protec gear, that gets expensive, but is replaceable with standard parts. If you have multiport injection, you may need an intake manifold as well as the other parts mentioned. It appears to me that the pro-boss injection is TBI, so no intake manifold would be needed in that case.   My "where to start with this engine rebuild" thread has some pictures that might confirm which type of engine you have.   If you can get a really good deal on the boat, the work might be worthwhile can you get some pictures?

Dreaming, those are breaker/switches, not the ignition.

Foot_Fungus, you have a spare? If you ever want to get rid of it, please, let me know.

And yes, the Pro Tec ignition has many little problems that ultimately leads to its demise. I still have mine, once in a while it does act up, no die why. But it works fantastic when its not acting up. And its really nice because most of the time I dont ever have to pump the throttle for starting, it adjusts the timing and smooths the idle out all on its own, points doesn't do that...

I actually wish my CC had the pro tec, bummer it doesn't...

True, But the OP is asking about the fuse box, so I was thinking he may be talking about the breaker panel to the lower left of the helm.   with the translation to English, some terminology definitely gets interesting

I may have a lead on a protec spare for you if your interested in buying one... PM me and I'll give you a phone number.   I ordered some manifolds and a fuel pump set from this guy. manifolds came in good order, fuel pumps were both DOA, so as of now, I wouldn't pay much for his Protec set up, but it might be worth the conversation

Pictures of the boat.

It has been stolen and now sold to the owner from the insurance.

It's my dream boat, but it needs some work.

Is it possible to get drawings of the original platform to?

That boat should go very cheap to make it worth! Lots of hard to find missing parts...odd the motor box seems from another boat, it doesn't match the boat colour combo.

I believe there are a lot of mis-matched parts on that boat. Engine box, driver seat appears to be blue (green stripe on hull). There appears to be a lot missing off that GT-40 too. I don't know about drawings for the platform, but they are available in the "Store" on this site.

This should definitely be a low, low price based on the condition and items missing.

Thanks for post guys...

The boat with trailer is mine for 3600 US.

In Scandinavia these boats are extremly expensive. This one will cost about: 18000 US

Where to find the parts? Ebay Or in here?

Im pretty good handy man ;) - Im thinking of building my own interiour and a lot of the other things.

I think $3600 is about the right ballpark for '00 to '02 boat in that shape. Obviously the more you can negotiate it down the better.

Rounding up parts is going to be the challenging part. Probably going to have to scour ebay and everywhere else including here to piece it back together. You may decide, in order to move your project along, to buy some of the stuff new. I would imagine much of that stuff is available as replacement (new) parts as well.

Hook up with Zach (Phatsat67 here on CCF) who works at N3 boat works here in the US, they seem to run a lot of boats through that dealership and he is always coming up with creative solutions for used parts, meaning I think they a good number of wrecked boats come through there as well. For instance, you don't necessarily need a complete observers seat, but if you can pick up used shell with the hardware (hinges, lift mechanism and attachments) your a long way ahead over building your own. Much easier to cover a shell then to try and build one from scratch.

I think you have a good project, with time and patience you should be able to whip that thing back into like new condition.

Thats a low price... but also lots expensive parts are missing. And you don t know the engine condition...
seats (observer and stern) are definetely hard to find and odd to ship, unless you can some how custom made a new one with its own hinge system.
Combing pads you can fab them if you can find a similar boat and make the templates.
I wonder if those digital gauges are functional...they tend to go bad.
its a big project!

Seb, you are absolutely right and you are much more familiar with the challenges of importing parts. I just keep thinking, even if he has to buy $10k or $12k USD worth of parts, he is still ahead. $10k of parts buys a lot of stuff.

It would be a really pretty boat put back the way it was supposed to be. I wasn't a fan of the green on the neutral (masters scheme) hull, but that green is killer on white.

To my knowledge I do not have an observers seat base. I do have platforms but it would probably be cheaper to measure and make your own over there?
I can get pretty good rates via DHL for shipping.

Looks like a closed loop cooling system on that GT-40 pretty rare probably was used in salt water? Check everywhere for corrosion.

If that is already your dream boat wait until you drive it

My absolute dream boat ! Thanks Zach ! I will hook you up when I hopefully buy it :)

I will make a trip to it next week, one last view before my desision.

Yeah, in denmark there is only Salt Water. So closed cooling system is the best. As i understand the engine gets a bit higher temp, but that should be good. About 80'

Exhaust manifolds are saltwater cooled.

Yeah i was thinking building my own platform. 2 choises.

1: Teak ( looks like a milion )

2: Stainles stell frame with glassfiber platform in the middel.

Then a new couch in the back and a observertor seat, and properly a new drivers seat :)

I hope you're good with electrical wiring. I think that thing is going to be a wiring/electrical nightmare.

The Ford GT40 PCM engine is much nicer than the early Protec fuel injected engines from PCM.

It is multipoint injection for starters. It was put together using mainly Ford parts so it makes sourcing parts much easier. Most of the parts cross over from the EEC1V based V8 auto engines.

This may not help you much in Europe but in the US most of the auto chain stores carry these parts.

From the pictures you can see the ECM hanging down this is the only part that is quite difficult to source. This is a bit of a worry and the general condition of that engine is not good.

Salt water and being left uncovered to the weather for some time are not kind to electrical parts and wiring.
If you're going through hell, keep going

Like lewy said, YES, it being a gt40 makes it much easier to repair and get parts for. I'd send the guys at skidim an email and they can probably direct you to where to find that replacement breaker for cheap.

And YES being a gt40 it does NOT have protec. Again that's a big plus for you.
