My ski Tique had the lettering and stripes removed sometime prior to my ownership. There is still ghosting of the previous stripes and lettering. Anybody attempted to repaint these? If so what type of paint/special tools/prep work was required? And how did it turn out?

Jeff Toro did an awesome job repainting the graphics on his '77SN. Different stripes/lettering, but the prep/paint should essentially be the same.

'77 graphics resto

'77 graphics resto update

There has also been talk of how to paint the tri-color stripes on the 82-84 2001's, both in color selection and methods. A few people have done awesome jobs recreating the factory stripes. KFD14 and DWCar are 2 guys that come to mind. Try a search.

As Tim points out., Jeff's DIY job came out amazing, and all of what you need to know is there, if you can see enough of a ghost image to mask. If not, I'm not sure if there is an available stencil for an 82' Tique available (as it won't look at all like Jeff's 77')Maybe someone has the graphic file for this year. If not, you could wet sand and start over. the late 70's is certainly available.. But then you'd have to deal with Pete !!!

Is an 82' Tique the same hull as an 81' SN?? Thought Alan had a graphic file for the 81' SN graphics which could perhaps be modified to create the 82' Tique??

Alan has the file (its in the reference section), but I believe he recommends taping the stripe by hand. The 82-84 Tique has a modified version of the 2nd gen SN hull (1970-1981) and shares a bunch of hardware with the 80-81 SN, but the stripes look to be a little different. Tique looks to be scaled down (shorter) among other differences. See below.

Using the graphics file to cut a mask for the Ski Tique lettering is a good idea though. The font will be the same, but probably needs to be scaled down to match the height.

That it has and yet I still have it...there is another boat that came up for sale that I was interested in and thought I would test the waters. Doesn't seem to be much interest so let the resto games begin. Gel coat guy is coming to touch up all the dings and scratches next week then a new trailer will be ordered a few weeks later. The stripe project might commence sometime after that...

I have an '82 Ski Tique that has been sitting for about six years. I will be pulling it out of storage in a couple of weeks to start a resto on it. The previous owner still had the notarized letter from Ken D. Meloon stating that it is an Correct Craft 179 Ski Tique sold on June 1st, 1981 and that it is a 1982 model. It has poorly touched up graphics and will be taking lots of photos and measurements before I attempt to replace/repaint them. First, I have a stringer replacement to do. Oh boy!.

I did my stripes and lettering cheap. I posted the results in my thread.
It turned out pretty good.

I traced out all the shadow lines of the letters and stripes with pencil. Then once again, but harder to make the pencil line darker. Then green painters tape over the letters and the pencil shows through the tape. Then cut the letters out.
The stripes I used 1/8" painters tape and so on to trim it out.
For paint, I used Tremclad spray paint. Several light coats every 30 mins or so.....
