96 sport with efi.

Turned the key to start and nothing happened. Heard the fuel pump engage but didn’t start. Tried again, nothing. Third time a charm, fired right away as it always does. This was the second time this has happened. Both times it started on the third attempt. Before I go and start replacing parts “Willy Nilly”, what should I look at first? Ignition switch? Starter? Relay? I wouldn’t call myself mechanically inclined so speak slowly !!!!
Thanks

Jason,
The first thing to look at is the battery cable connections. Make sure they are clean and tight. Clean both wit a battery post/cable terminal cleaner. It has male and female wire brushes that do a great job.

Next when it happens again is to jiggle the throttle/shift to see if maybe the NSS (neutral safety switch) is open not allowing the start relay to energize. If that is the problem then a shift cable adjustment is needed.

Sounds good thanks. There are 2 relays on the back of the motor. I believe that one maybe the the fuel pump relay, is the other one a start relay?
