When looking over my engine (351w) during winterizing, I noticed the pulley on the recirc pump(I a$$ume it was the recirc pump, it's the middle pulley) had some side to side play in it. Felt like the shaft not the pulley itself.

Is this something I should be worried about? I have no leaks from that area.

Mark,

Last run out this fall I noticed the infamous Ford Water pump rattle. I found a little side play but no water leaking yet. I think it's a matter of time so I'm going to replace it before hitting the water in spring.

Mark Mel,be careful when you buy a new pump, the catalogs will show two types of ciculating pumps, one will say bi-directional,the other says CCW, and a large price difference. The true CCW is what you need, and install new belt with just enough tension that the belt dont squeel, too much tension will kill the waterpunp bearing in short order.............boat dr

Boat doc,    figured out problem, when they welded the case the heat caused the inner race to move forward in the bore. knocked it back down and it was good to go
