Growing up, I was a big time car fan. I grew up in the mid 80's when Trans Am, Camaro, Mustang, Olds 442 and Firebirds were dominate. I always had a pa$$ion for the Buick Grand National and GNX. What a bad a$$ car that was and still is. It's amazing how a 3.8, V6 turbo can launch a full size car 0-60 in 4.7 seconds (Car and Driver). I absolutely love the sound they make at idle and when the turbo spools up. Has anyone owned or own one of these mean machines?

Their's 3 of them down here. My neighbor has one It really comes alive when that turbo kicks in. I'll see if I can get some pics. I have a 67 pontiac firebird convertible, and a 68 pontiac firebird hardtop, both with 400-4speed.

These cars are good investments. Their value keeps creaping up, like the mid to late 90's Toyota Supra Turbo. I'm trying to convince my wife of this fact. I can't say the same for my '99 Mercury Mountaineer. I paid $28K for it and it's worth about $4,500. How is that even legal?

Ah, a subject close to my heart. The GNX and the GN are totally different cars (as was mentioned). The GN is essentially a T-Type with "Grand National" badging and paint. The GNX is a McLaren-developed supercar of which there are less than 600 in existance. Apparently it was developed to give the Calloway guys a run for the money. I went to a local car show back in college that featured a minty-clean GNX, bone stock with almost no miles. I thought the 0-60 was actually 5.5 seconds rather than sub-5, which is really insane for the time. I'd love to own a nice minty 87 GN at some point in life.

Name one car today that's stock, fast, mean looking and affordable. Granted the GNX was $29K in 1987. Almost 20 years later, the GNX still turns heads and is very fast. Lots of mods can be done to the engine too. Where have all the fast cars gone?

547 GNXs, my buddy's dad has #300 new and I'm the first on the "sell to" list, I'd give him a kidney for that car.
My first car was an '85 T-type, black with GN wheels. It was a hot air car but could still get up and move! If it were a t-top car I never would have sold it. Goin' fast with cla$$!!!!!!! Some cool GN/TTA videos I recommend "GNjungle" Ken, I've given you crap for your queer tendencies in the recent pa$$ but you just scored major points with this thread! My chest is pumping just thinking about these cars. |

Hollywood, it doesn't get any better than Nautiques, Babes, Beers and a finely tuned GNX. That's my happy place. I'd give my right nut for a 1987, GNX, low mileage, perfect condition. It would be my weekend ride.
Would your buddies Dad take my right nut over your kidney?

The turbo lag is pretty hindering, from what I know. Once it kicked in though, you are pinned to the seat. I experienced one ride in my life in a GN and won't ever forget the G's when the turbo is maxed out.

That is a sad sight. I would completely take care of mine, but drive it like it's supposed to be driven..HARD. Dang, those cars lay a nice patch. Hard to believe the 2007 Mustang GT 500, with 500HP runs 4.9, 0-60. The GNX with 300HP, does 4.7 (according to Car and Driver). Twenty year old technology against brand new technology. I can't say enough about GNX's. I believe Buick is manufacturing a new GNX. Not sure about the details.

I remember reading something about that in Car and Driver quite some time back. Sadly, it will probably be some watered down disaster that they will call a Grand National and ruin the name....not that GM would ever do that. Malibu. Impala. Anyway, that would be sweet, except I can't see myself strolling into a Buick showroom today and seeing a "drivers" car there. I can't recall the last time I saw anyone under 60 driving a Buick.

Are you freaken kidding me??? Good luck to him. I love the car and all, but I wouldn't pay $70K. Maybe if I were super rich and wiped my butt with $100 bills, then yes. That is a sweet car though. Who would have thunk a Buick would be an investment? Maybe I'll offer him $15K.
