Greg, Lake Lanier?

What's the latest? You haven't posted anything lately. Is the Atlanta area still going to have any water?

You mean what used to be Lake Lanier? Lanier at full pool is about 1071 & I just checked the corp website & yesterday it was at 1051. The recored low before this was around 1052.7. The worst part is it is still dropping since we are getting NO rain. The lake will take several years to come back unless we have a tropical storm or something come through. I haven't been up there to take any pictures lately, but maybe Buffalo Greg has some since he is on the lake. I will try to go up & take some this weekend if I can.

What's the real estate market like on that lake. Have prices dropped?

Greg; All I can say is WOW....gotta be years before that lake is back. Unbelievable. And the politicians are still just talking.

They're saying our 'dead pool' starts at 1039. Short of floating a barge in what's left of the lake, the water systems won't be able to pick up below this level as well...
Lanier Water Levels

Is it me or is there increase in Georgia boats for sale right now???

Lanier is at least moving in the right direction with the rain we have gotten lately. I don't think it will recover this year though unless we get a tropical storm or something come through. I was talking to a business associate this morning & he said the corp of engineers came by & cut about 6' off of some trees that were right behind his houseboat not long ago. He couldn't even get his boat out before that!

The national weather service says we got 1.5" of rain in gainesville from 1:30-2:30pm and 2.23" for the day yesterday. I can almost see the lake filling!

Lake Norman lake levels:

This was near our low point. There was never nearly this much shoreline showing on the dock side, only about 20' out, where it falls off much steeper. We could still use our ramp but you had to drop the trailer tires off the end.


This was Aug 2007, when we had the CCFan gathering. Notice the angle on the walking plank going down to the floating dock. This was actually low for this time of the year as you can tell from the stain on the pilings.


3/01/08, two weeks ago, and again notice the angle of the ramp to the floating dock. This is about 3' higher than it was in the lowest-level top picture.


And now today, 3/16/08, again look at the ramp angle. Our water has risen 2' in just two weeks! Helped by 2" of rain just yesterday. The light brown you see in the water is from the high winds we've had lately churning up the bottom in the shallows. It's never as clear as many lakes, but we get 4'-6' of visibility when it's calm.    


I'm confident 2-Gregs will be back boating sooner than later down in HotLanta.

I was up there today and couldn't believe the change. I haven't seen Lkn that high since fall of 06. MIL was up to full pond about a month ago and even Wylie is starting to look normal again. I think the mtns got a decent snow this year. We're still on water restrictions though, I can't water the lawn or wash my car in my driveway.

It was strange enough that I wasn't out there for the 'official' beginning of summer, but to only hear a few boats go by...
