1. Avoid cutting yourself when slicing vegetables by getting someone else to hold them while you chop. 2. Avoid arguments with the Mrs. about lifting the toilet seat by using the shower. 3. For high blood pressure sufferers: simply cut yourself and bleed for a few minutes, thus reducing the pressure in your veins. Remember to use a timer. 4. A mouse trap, placed on top of your alarm clock, will prevent you from rolling over and going back to sleep after you hit the snooze button. 5. If you have a bad cough, take a large dose of laxatives, then you will be afraid to cough. 6. You only need two tools in life - WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn 't move and does, use the duct tape. |

Looking at map quest, they claim 81 miles from preston to manchester, but I'm sure there are shorter routes. The bird population seemed to be on the rise the last couple of years, but I'm afraid it's going to take a hit this year. The long winter and heavy snow was hard on everything. Now up in our area it's severe flooding. Not good for hatching eggs. I spent most of yesterday tying up docks and shore stations.
Not trying to bring up ethanol with this post, But the pheasants have lost a lot of there nesting area to corn. Were still seeing them around, It just doesn't seem to be as wide spread. I remember a few of my sweet spots where you could limit out in an hour. Now if I hunted those same spots combined you might be lucky to see a couple birds all day. |

I hate to go off subject but I just could not resist responding to the bird hunting talk. I have an English Setter and spend most of the fall and winter chasing birds.
Boat Dr. do you have a dogs? I love woodcock hunting and have always wanted to hunt them in their wintering grounds, do you hunt woodcock? |

Bryan, that is my passion. This is where all the Woodcock winter. Central Louisiana is the best kept secret for the elusive timberdoodle.
Best year in the past 20, lottsa 50 bird days.Best day was 01/15/08 33 points in 90 minutes.Bonus birds that day were 3 doubles and two triples. Did not score higher than a single on any of those, maybe next year. My kennel is filled with Pointers.... Cheif 7 years old /resident vacuum cleaner Buddy 15 months/ honors and back fine , clean up position Sandy/6 months female in training Tri/ 10 years retired to house/ "guard dog" he guards the food bowl . Would love to talk birds and dogs anytime............1-318-386-2825..Billy |

Boat Dr.
It is great to hear from another woodcock enthusiast. I enjoy all types of bird hunting but woodcock hunting is the ultimate for bird dogs. I am very jealous of those bird numbers. I live in Indiana and hunt woodcock on their way south in October and November. This was a bad year for us due to a drought, we had very few birds stay over. March is actually my favorite time of the year because we get lots of birds staying over on there way north. Obviously this is only training but it is a great opportunity to bird a young dog along. What are your season dates in Louisiana? I take a trip to Kansas every December but I would love to head down to your neck of the woods sometime. Maybe you could head me in the right direction. |

I hear the woodcock have been in Maine for the past few weeks. I'm always too busy this time of year to get Riley out on them, but I have lots of friends that take advantage of them for spring training.

In my opinion spring woodcock is one of the best ways to bring along a dog. I am always careful to leave them alone when the birds start to nest. This is catch and release hunting and allows you to get more time afield with your dog.
Eric I have always heard that the difference between a good fisherman and a bad one was how they wiggled their worm. |

I should have been able to figure that out. Not a term used too much in Maine because we are about 98.5% W.
