This is my first correctcraft a 79 st . All of the water will never drain out of the battery box , is it ok to drill holes in the bottom of the battery box for drainage or should I just plug the existing hole. Thank you for all the great knowledge.

I did this just to check for wet foam. Didn't find any foam but the hole let's in more water than drains out! I just sealed the hole up.

Tommy, Be careful!! The bottom of the battery box is the bottom of the boat.

I dont suggest drilling a hole. Besides the obvious chance of going through the hull by mistake, the water would not drain into the bilge anyways. The batt box is located forward of the front bulkhead, so that hole would only provide an easy access point to start soaking your foam and rotting your stringers.

There was about a 1/2 inch gap between the bottom of my battery box & the hull. No foam, no water, until I washed out the bilge. My bulkhead obvious isn't watertight because the water found it's way up there when the boat was nose down. Looks like I have some structural work to do next winter. No time for that now - it's almost ski season!

Chris, On the 70's style hulls, there isn't a battery box bottom.

We did have a guy drill through the bottom of his boat! No one believed me until I copied and pasted it over from the2001 to CCfan. I looked for it but couldn't find it!! Can't remember who it was ether. Maybe Tim does - he remembers everything!

That definitely would let the water out, as long as it's on the trailer!!

Drilling holes, doesnt that defeat the purpose of a battery box? Its to contain acid in the event of leakage.
