I just had the velvet drive rebuilt by fantastic finish marine. Guys are great and really helpful by the way. Their suppliers are out of damper plates, so i need to get one from somewhere else. I have been told a few different things from different people, so I come here to ask the experts. Boat is a 1986 martinique with the 351. Velvet drive 71c is the transmission. http://bpi.ebasicpower.com/c/DAMPERS/Drive+Dampers is it the ALDTA-106 or the ALDTA-106a? Am I way off? Do I need to measure my flywheel?

Sachs drive dampner plate at Mer equipment
Sachs is the best. No you don't need to measure anything. This is the same dampner plate Eric at FFM uses/recommends. |

LOL, "dampner".
You guys might not find this funny, but this comes up all the time for steering dampers on motorcycles. "Dampner" isn't even a word. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/dampner Never mind me, I just got a laugh out of it. |

Tom, Do you have the "Wisconsin" accent? Well in all my years, I had always heard and called them "dampners"!! Then one day here on CCfan I noticed Eric was calling them "dampers" so I then called them the same. Yesterday I must have had a loss of memory and reverted back to the old spelling. Now, the real name for them is a "drive plate" !!! |

Freddie, use dampner in a sentence.

Pete, I have an odd accent.
I was born in SE Wisconsin, moved to So Cal at less than 2 years of age, then back to WI until my mid 20's. Then I moved to Maine, and picked up that accent. I have been here in SE WI since then. For years until I moved to Maine I was on the radio as a DJ, and I seriously looked at doing that for a profession. TV and radio stations love to hire Midwesterners, because even if they have an accent, it goes away when they are on. Unless you are from Minnesota, then that "o" drags on too long. LOL |
