The needle on my fuel guage moves wildly. It will go back and forth on the dial. I have learned that the real value is about the middle of it's range. Is this the sender unit or just a bad guage? Not really a big problem but I do like for everything to be working correctly. Thanks for your answers.

Check to make sure you are getting a consistent 12 volt nominal to the gauge, Ohm out the sender wire between the gauge and the tank. It should be near zero. Check for gound continuity between the engine block ang gas tank. Clean all connections including the sender mounting screws. Then if you still have the same problem, we'll take it a step farther.

sometimes the float on the sending unit will slide on the wire it's mounted on and float up giving false reading as well.
