Hey,
I have a 86 SN with a 351W with the electric choke. Have you guys noticed that as it gets hotter its harder to start? The last two times I have been out I have had a hard time getting it started (probably 20 seconds of cranking) and the only that is different I notice is it has been hotter (mid 80s).

Should I adjust the choke? If so which way should i adjust? Closed longer or open faster?

I usually give it 2-3 small pumps. Does anyone give it more or less when its hotter?

It runs and idles great once it has ran for about 60-90 seconds so I think everything else is in running order. Accelerates and has top speed, just doesnt want to start.

Hmmm. Do you give it pumps of gas every time you start it?

I don't think you should have to once it's warmed up. I only do that with mine when it's cold.

ya no I meant hotter tempature-wise outside. The engine starts fine when its warmed up. I tested it again last night. Gave it one big pump and it fired right up. So go figure. However, it will stall after 3-5 seconds if I dont give it throttle and let it warm up to about 120. Do you think I should open the choke up faster?

That sounds pretty normal to me.

Yeah, sometimes even with the motor cold, if I just ran it the day before or earlier that day, I can get away with no pumps and just giving it some throttle. I think it's normal to have to give it a little throttle till it's at least partly warmed up.

It doesn't sound to me like a choke issue. The only time a elec. Choke is really, In full operation is on a stone cold motor or if you leave it sitting for a few hours. When the ignition switch is on its applied 12 volts the the choke so its heated.. your choke is not being used during normal start stops on the water. I have to pump the throttle one time on my 86 during warm starts and it fires right up.
