I have purchased a PSS kit (it is being shipped) and in preparation for install i removed the old strut packing assembly. There is pretty significant wear on the shaft where the old packing sealed. Will this cause issues with the PSS system? Will the rotating flange for the PSS will sit in the same spot as the previous packing?

The sealing surface of a dripless seal is NOT on the shaft. Typically there will be a static "O" ring(s) seal between the shaft and the rotating portion of the mechanical dripless seal. It may or may not seal. It depends on how bad the shaft is scored and if the "O" ring is on the scored area.

Hopefully not. There will be included instructions on how to set the preload on the seal.

The sealing surface doesn't ride on the shaft. |
