Congratulations.

By the way, are you in the middle of your crisis? Losing weight, selling the old truck/buying a new one. What's next? Retiring and starting a new business venture ?

Yes, actually - perhaps a new direction in profession. Perhaps some clinical time at the Vet School........

I want my convertible back for my mid-life crisis, part 2.

The 3.9 was one of the most horrible V6 engines ever produced in the history of the world IMHO. You couldn't pay me to drive one.

I still have visions of teaching laparoscopy at a vet school...

I keep asking my wife, when do I get to have a convertible (preferably fast and sporty)

Laparoscopy isn't cost-effective in veterinary medicine.... don't give up your day job.

I'd rec'd a MINI convertible.... small enough to store in that big garage of yours without disturbing the boats (small footprint)... but plenty of juice to race nearby at VIR.... as modified stock. Loved mine!

To update this thread I was the one that ended up buying Steve and Val’s truck. After an oil change and a new set of tires I drove it home to upstate NY and have been driving it about a hundred miles daily since. Cosmetically, it is very nice for a 37 year old truck, of course it will someday get some minor rust repair, paint job, and maybe a little interior freshening.   Eventually it will also someday get some more power, and perhaps an overdrive transmission. But for now it seems a shame to mess with it too much as it has a good survivor charm to it. I’ll drive it every day for another couple weeks to get comfortable with it and then I’ll likely give it an ignition tune up and a carb rebuild before calling it ready for the summer.

Thanks to Steve for all the help on the long distance sale!

That is a cool truck, we were considering their exploder for Maddie until we realized no 4WD.

And how many gallons per mile are you getting with that rig!!

CQ - It is a cool truck. I'm glad Joe's going to do right by it and it should do right by Joe. We always got the same MPG empty, loaded or hauling. It's not aerodynamic and no overdrive doesn't help spare fuel..... but it moves along.

(I'm glad this thread didn't get updated with the classic "old trailer on the side of the road tale" we often hear. When you sell to friends....who knows what happens! - Whew!!! )

In theory it has a Dana 61 – with 3.31 gears, at least that’s what the door tag said. I got 10.4 mpg on the ride back, running round town on these cold days with a high idle I am probably getting 9 ish if I had to guess. Considering how far off the speedometer is from the actual speed, and that it has been that way as long as Steve had it I would not be surprised if it has had 3.73s swapped in at some point before he bought it. Someday when I have the rear axle off the ground I’ll count it and find out.

Considering how far I have now driven it and that it passed its nys safety inspection with flying colors I think Steve can officially blame any future problems on the new owner and sleep well.

If you can get a MPH/RPM, final transmission ratio and tire diameter you can calculate the rear end ratio.

In this particular truck rpms are measured in terms of loud, pretty loud, or really loud.
