I need to install a kill switch on my '93. Ideally I'd like it in the combing pad near the shifter but that's upholstered with thin padding underneath. Should I just make a small cross hair cut in the pad then poke the ~1/2" drill bit in to go thru the glass? Then I was thinking a shot of super glue to the cut when done to help fuse it. My only other option that I can think of is to drill the switch in the right hand switch panel which I don't favor.

I hate holes too but I am a safety nerd. To mount under gunnel I'd have to make a bracket then epoxy it in? Maybe I'll find someway to mount it underneath.

+1 Some ply or dimension board, 5 minute epoxy & it is a done deal. I have tried to avoid permanent mods, at least ones that show. |

Safety has nothing to do with drilling holes. I'd probably opt for aluminum over wood... Epoxy or screws can be used depending on the thickness of the mount location. Flat vs angle depends on the orientation and location... Here is how I mounted my new heater switch.

Tim,
Very nice job with keeping the original look without holes. Jeff, If you want to mount under the gunnel close to the helm throttle/shift, an aluminum bracket would be a good choice. If there isn't any backing to screw to, through bolt the bracket on behind the gunnel but hide the bolt heads under the combing pad. |

I luv the heater switch ! And I agree: "say no to holes" especially in padded vinyl.
I was drilling once, and the bit grabbed the foam rubber and pulled out a big chunk of foam rubber. I made an underdash bracket for a 12v outlet and used the bottom bolts of the steering bezel to attach. |

if you want to mount your kill switch in the combing pad, I don't think that's a bad location, mine is located there, and I believe it was a factory install... instead of cutting though, you'd need to punch a hole in the vinyl with a leather punch so that the stress put on the vinyl won't cause the "cuts" to continue. You'd have to take the skin off, and punch it, vs trying to cut/drill. I think it is more work, and may not have a great result, but if that is where you want your switch, it is worth a try. A template would be helpful in this case for marking the hole/switch/punch location.
