The 3 marinas in the area are Brookfield Bay Marina, Candlewood East Marina, and Echo Bay Marina. Based on how you described it you were probably at Candlewood East. Back in the 70's there was a tennis bubble across the street from it. They just remodeled the whole place a couple of years ago and it is quite nice!

Looked for photos of candlewood east, found none. It was a club, not a Marina, but their website says since 1983, so maybe it was just the club before that. Google map looks about right, it was on a point with a cove to the north.

Grew up in Stamford, fond memories of skipping school and going to candlewood. In winter, we'd skip and go to Mohawk Mountain

Not too sure... I was born in Brookfield in 1970, so I can't say I remember exactly what the scene looked like in the 70's. But unless it was in Danbury or New Milford, I think it had to be one of those 3. The only other thing I can think of is a yellow house that is right in the area that is some kind of club. I think it's a Portuguese club, but who knows what it was back then.

And Mohawk Mtn is still there.   I love skiing there because they are somewhat liberal with how they rate their trails. I can ski the blacks and it makes me feel special. If I ski up in Vermont I have to stick to the blues so I don't kill myself.

Know the area well, also my wife grew up in Ridgefield and we lived in Bethel before we moved to ga.

Mohawk is fun but Great Barrington offers ( or at least back then) a lot more (Butternut, Jiminy Peak, Brodie, Catamount) for not much further. Went to Hunter and Stratton a lot, my favorite is Killington.

My sister-in-law lives in Steamboat Springs...Once there I asked about sharpening edges and they were perplexed..."What is this thing you call "ice"??

I'm partial to Smuggler's Notch. I go there every year with a big group of people from Griffin Hospital in Derby. I haven't skied out West yet, but there is probably a 50% chance I will be moving to Denver within the next year, so I may have the chance! I hear it's a lot easier to ski out there.

Sounds like something that should be hanging over the fireplace in the Mohawk lounge.

Yup, crazy powder runs. My brother-in-law is an extreme skier, they hike the peaks, half-day climbing up, then down.

Believe it or not , I still ski on Olin Mark IV 's with Tyrolia 350 bindings and orange Hanson boots . People talk to me on the lift all the time reminiscing about those skis and the past .
