Oh my gosh, now it would really depreciate if it had anything close to UGA or a dawg on it. Now Orange and Blue, that would be a gorgeous boat. Great post MM, that's what I'm talkin' about. Welcome to the 'Swamp' boys.

My separator is white hull with red stripe on the side and red racing stripes on the top deck. It is pictured in the Diaries when I got it.

That is one cool boat, and will look great no matter what you do (within reason). But IMHO red boats are a b*tch to maintain with regard to the finish. Used to own one, hated trying to bring the color back 3 - 4 times each season.

Okay - got the engine running and she sounds lovely. It still has the rusty carb on it and it seems to work fine so I'm going to warm it up on Inland Lake this afternoon.

It wasn't easy as my stepdad had a morrass of wires with no color actually meaning anything running everywhere and I couldn't get the coil/ignition to heat up from the front no matter what. I rigged a jump from the battery to the power block that heats up the coil, ignition and fuel pump and she fired right up as if she had been running yesterday. On three year old fuel even. Going to pump out the old fuel and fill her up in just a few minutes on the way to the lake.

Anybody know where I can get the little cowls that go over the engine compartment vents? In chrome maybe? Finally got my body man over to look at her and she isn't going to be too hard to paint. I'm pulling everything off her in the next few days to prep for paint. The interior is still usable if not quite perfect. Found the back seat in the old garage so I have everything for her except the original cover. I'll have one made this winter sometime.

All the chrome is in good shape except the fuel fill neck - it will have to be rechromed. All the dash lights work, the guages all seem to work, the shift and throttle cables are like new, the front light works, the rear light works, the trailer is in good shape but everything needs new paint. The prop does have a ding in the leading edge on one blade so that'll have to be repaired before I polish the prop out.


Will post a pic or two and a top speed upon return from the lake.

First off - Inland was dry as a bone. Record drought has her about twelve feet low and we couldn't launch from either end. We then proceeded to Guntersville and launched next to the Holiday Inn.

No pics - the wife got flustered becuase as she parked the truck and trailer after launch she mangled the aft starboard side of a brand new Stratos trailer - it happens that the guy who owned it is down from SC for a championship tournament with a really high payout. That's his job - to fish. Left him a note and now we have to fix his stuff before we can continue to fix up ours. Leave it to my wife to pick the most expensive thing in the parking lot to run over.

The boat ran great for about ten minutes, sputtered once and conked out. Smoke was pouring from the engine compartment so I grabbed the fire ext on my way to the engine - of course water washed into the engine box. Luckily it was only a moderate electrical fire and was easily put out by pulling the offending hot wire and waiting for the smoke to clear. Half a roll of electrical tape and a new jump (routed away from anything hot that would melt the insulation and ground it out) later and we were back underway.

41.2 mph is all she'll do but I'm certain the carb secondaries are non-functional. Will pull, clean up and replace the carb soon. The engine, velvet drive and v-drive all performed flawlessly. The tranny or v-drive or both are making some noise but it's only audible at idle and doesn't sound bad - no clunking, growling, grinding or anything of that nature.

She's slow coming out of the hole and points her nose skyward (which spooked the snot out of the wife and stepson LMAO!!) for a good 15 seconds before she hops up on plane.

The good thing is that even though she's quite ugly with her primer and greasy fingerprint paint scheme, she drew attention from almost everyone. It seems there are a lot more Correct Craft aficionados out there than I would have ever thought.

Geno, All the rear engines were slow to get up on plane and most had trim tabs added. I even think the later versions had them from the factory. The single tab on your boat is non functional. Someone didn't do their homework!! To work properly you need two tabs and they must be mounted flush with the bottom of the boat. The self adjusting spring loaded ones work great. The only drawback to tabs are a few MPH at WOT.

Thanks Pete - trim tabs will be added after we get a finish on the hull.

Does anyone know where to get the little cowlings or covers for the engine compartment vents?
